Water Polo - Come and have fun!

Every Tuesday evening from 8:30 pm - 9:30 pm at the CARI pool, we'll have water polo. It's a fun sport that only requires a swimming cap and basic swimming skills (no previous water polo experience needed).   It's FREE for UPEI students and for non-students $4.50 per night. Haunted House

The UPEI Music Department will be holding its annual Haunted House on October 30th and 31st from 7:00pm- 11:30pm. There will also be a bake sale at the door. Admission is $5/person or $4 if you present your UPEI or Holland College student ID! Come take a walk through the halls of the haunted Steel Building; you never know what you might run into on the way...

Departments of Biomedical Sciences & Pathology and Microbiology Seminar - Tuesday, October 27
Sushant Gavhale, Department of Biomedical Sciences will present a seminar called "Defining the Role of Sox 11 and Combined Sox 4/Sox 11 in Renal Development" on Tuesday, October 27 at 3:30 pm in AVC Lecture Theatre C.

Notice of Revised Board of Governors Policies and information session
Please note that the Board of Governors has approved new versions of five (5) existing policies as well as one (1) new policy. These polices, along with related procedural guidelines, can be found on the UPEI Board of Governors Policy and Procedures website.  http://www.upei.ca/policy/
 
Matt Adams, Accounting Manager, will hold an information session to review the financial policies and to answer questions about the procedural guidelines related to the 4 following policies:

• Moving and Relocation Expenses.

Speaker: Peter Rukavina, Robertson Library’s Hacker in Residence

The speaker will present a tour of his work in open data/open government over the last decade, including provincial and municipal examples, and focusing on how open data can be used by citizens to good end.

Family Friendly Halloween Event
Students, Staff and Faculty with young children are invited to come to the Campus Life Lounge, in Student Affairs (above the Bookstore in the W.A. Murphy Centre) on Saturday October 24th from 11am to 2pm.
 
We will have gourd decorating, halloween games, crafts, a halloween movie, coffee and tea for parents, and snacks... we will also have a Haunted Boardroom.
 
This is a great way for parents to meet other parents who are part of the UPEI community.  
 
Costumes are encouraged, but not required!
 
(note: this event is geared towards children under the age of 12, but anyone is welcome)

Department of Music Recital Series Afternoon Recital

The UPEI Department of Music Recital Series 2015-2016 is pleased to present its first Afternoon Recital of the season. Music students will be performing works by Tartini, Schubert, Mozart and others this Friday, October 23 at 12:40 pm in the Dr. Steel Recital Hall. All are welcome and admission is free.  

Flu Vaccination Clinic
A flu clinic will not be held at UPEI this fall due to the delayed opening of the Student Health Centre.
 You can call 1-855-354-4358 (4FLU) to book an appointment at a flu vaccination clinic in a community near you.
The hours of operation for the flu phone line are Monday to Friday, 8:30am-4:30pm. Messages may be left after hours, and calls will be returned the following business day.
 
You can also contact your local pharmacist, family doctor or nurse practitioner to arrange to get your vaccine.
The best way to protect yourself and others from the flu is to get vaccinated each year!  For more information about the flu, how it spreads, symptoms, or how you can protect yourself and others, and for clinic locations and dates, please visit www.gov.pe.ca/flu.

Health Career Showcase for UPEI Students
The PEI Department of Health and Wellness in conjunction with the PEI Health Sector Council are hosting the 6th Annual Health Career Showcase for UPEI Students on October 27, 2015. The purpose of the career fair event is to expose UPEI students to the a variety of health careers on PEI by providing them the opportunity to converse directly with health professionals.
 
Last year there were 35 health professionals representing over 20 health careers. Example of some health professionals in attendance: Medical Lab Technologist, Pharmacist, Physiotherapist, Physician, to name a few.

Parking notice
PEI Facilities Management has recently acquired a limited number of parking permits available for the CARI MacLauchlan Arena parking lot and are offering them to those who are currently parked in general lots and would like to relocate. The CARI arena parking lot typically has spaces available during the day during peak parking lot usage times. 
 
If you are interested in moving to this lot, please bring your current parking permit to Security Services located in the Central Utility Building. We will exchange your permit for a proximity card to access the CARI arena lot gates.
Chemistry Day, October 24

On Saturday October 24, 2015 from 10-11am, the Chem 483 class will be hosting a Chemistry Day. There will be a variety of demonstrations from the chemical chameleon to growing silver trees. All are welcome to attend.
