Dr. Christian Lacroix, professor and chair of the UPEI Department of Biology, took his Plant Community Ecology class to Basin Head on November 4 to study the unique mature grey dune system adjoining the beach.

Students took the opportunity to contemplate nature by lying down in beds of lichens. This particular dune system is home to extensive expanses of lichens. A lichen is a complex life form that is a symbiotic partnership of two separate organisms--a fungus and an alga.

Atlantic Veterinary College’s Dr. Étienne Côté receives Daniel Elmer Salmon Award

Dr. Étienne Côté, a faculty member at UPEI’s Atlantic Veterinary College (AVC), was honoured earlier this year with the Daniel Elmer Salmon Award for Distinguished Alumni Service. The prestigious award recognizes veterinary graduates of the Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) who have made outstanding contributions to the profession, their communities, or to the college itself.

“I’m incredibly honoured and a little bit in disbelief,” said a humbled Dr. Côté, after receiving the accolade.
