Honorary Degrees—Call for Nominations for Convocation 2025

The University of Prince Edward Island invites the nomination of candidates for honorary degrees to be conferred at Convocation in May 2025.

Honorary degrees are conferred honoris causa, “for the sake of honour,” and are intended to recognize outstanding provincial, national, and international contributions in any field of endeavour. Contributions should reflect extraordinary intellectual or artistic achievements, or significant service to society at a standard of excellence that merits the University’s highest honour.

UPEI’s Giving Tuesday 2024 campaign deemed a huge success

UPEI’s 2024 Giving Tuesday campaign was an unprecedented success, raising a total of $44,010 from 54 extremely generous donors on the Global Day of Philanthropy. An anonymous donor pledged to match Giving Tuesday donations up to $20,000, making it by far the largest year yet for UPEI.

The donations will be dedicated to the University’s $15-million Robertson Library Revitalization campaign.

UPEI campus community invited to “Access for All UPEI” event on January 13

The UPEI campus community is invited to participate in the “Access for All UPEI” event on January 13, 2025, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm, in McMillan Hall, W.A. Murphy Student Centre, to raise awareness of and advocate for improved accessibility on campus for students.

The event is organized by students Anthonia Bebiem (Mathematical and Computational Sciences), Obed Oluwakoya (Psychology), and Luciana Quiroa Paredes (Business) in partnership with UPEI Accessibility Services and the UPEI Student Union.

“Access for All UPEI” will feature several components:

UPEI nursing students holding book drive for PEI Provincial Addiction Treatment Centre

The UPEI Nursing Student Society is holding a holiday book drive to collect reading material, puzzles, and board games for clients of the PEI Provincial Addiction Treatment Centre (PATF).

The idea arose from accelerated nursing student Marie Thibault-Messier’s experience during a six-week clinical placement at the PATF earlier this semester. During her time at the centre, she noticed that clients had access to movies on DVD and VHS tapes but not a lot of reading material.

UPEI to hold Island-wide community discussions to help build strategic plan

The University of Prince Edward Island invites community members across PEI to join in a conversation and share their thoughts as the provincial university builds its next five-year strategic plan.

Dr. Wendy Rodgers, UPEI President, and Dr. Suzanne Kresta, Dean, Faculty of Sustainable Design Engineering, co-chairs of the University Strategic Planning Steering Committee, will lead the community discussions to gather input. They are eager to hear ideas and perspectives to help UPEI identify shared priorities and strategic direction through to 2030.
