Island Lecture Series presents ‘Beyond the Asylum’
The next talk in the Institute of Island Studies’ Island Lecture Series will feature Dr. Tina Pranger speaking about her book documenting the history of mental health care on Prince Edward Island. Her presentation will take place on Tuesday, January 21, at 7 pm in the Faculty Lounge of UPEI’s SDU Main Building.

Men’s hockey looks for an important win
The Panthers have just one game on the home schedule this week, but it’s a crucial one. The UPEI men’s hockey team is pushing to improve its record in the second half of the season with a win over Université de Moncton on Tuesday, starting at 7 pm in MacLauchlan Arena.
Jeff Collins selected for US Department of State leadership program
Dr. Jeff Collins, a lecturer in UPEI’s Master in Global Affairs program, was selected this fall by the US Department of State for its International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP). The IVLP is the US government’s premier professional exchange program, involving short but intense trips to the US to meet government, academic, and community leaders. Applicants are chosen by US embassies and consulates and are matched with a program theme connected to their work.
Wrap up UPEI's 50th anniversary celebrations at the New Year's Day Levee
Students along with representatives from UPEI’s Alumni Association, Board of Governors, and administration will greet guests at the annual University of Prince Edward Island New Year’s Day Levee. The festive tradition will take place on Wednesday, January 1, 2020, from 11:30 am–1:00 pm at UPEI’s Faculty of Sustainable Design Engineering building on the UPEI campus. A lunch and cash bar will be provided.
Dana Sanderson a finalist for 2019 Information Technology Association of Canada CIO of the Year
Dana Sanderson, Chief Information Officer at the University of Prince Edward Island, was a finalist this fall for the Information Technology Association of Canada (ITAC) CIO of the Year.
As UPEI’s CIO, he oversees the university’s IT strategy and execution, ensuring that it fully supports UPEI’s academic mission. He is an alumnus of UPEI’s bachelor of business administration program, and he has an MBA from the University of Ottawa. Prior to joining UPEI, Sanderson worked for more than two decades with J.D. Irving, Limited.
Women’s Hockey, Men’s Basketball play holiday tournaments
There’s no rest for the UPEI women’s hockey and men’s basketball teams this holiday season as both hit the road to test their mettle before the second half of the season. The women are in Montreal for the 2019 Theresa Humes Tournament, while the men are in Halifax for the Rod and Joan Shoveller Memorial Men’s Basketball Tournament.
UPEI’s first annual Korean speech contest a success!
UPEI’s Asian Studies Programme and Korean Studies Seed Project successfully hosted the first annual Korean speech contest on November 22 in the Faculty Lounge in SDU Main Building. This speech contest was the very first of its kind at UPEI for Asian or international languages. A good number of students participated, and their friends and classmates attended to cheer them on. In collaboration with the Department of Modern Languages, our four judges were Dr. Edward Chung, Prof. Reiko Dolan, Dr. Scott Lee, and Dr. Jeong-eun Park. Congratulations to the winners!
UPEI’s third annual Korean Movie Evening
UPEI’s Asian Studies Programme and Korean Studies Seed Project hosted the third annual UPEI Korean Movie Evening on October 21. The featured movie was Along with the Gods: The Two Worlds, South Korea’s most popular movie in 2017. Many international students attended and enjoyed the movie. We look forward to hosting more Asian movie events in 2020. Merry Christmas and happy holidays—Dao!
