Island Studies Press to launch first book dedicated to PEI mammals

Island Studies Press will launch the new book, Mammals of Prince Edward Island and Adjacent Marine Waters, on Tuesday, December 3, at 7:30 pm at the Beaconsfield Carriage House in Charlottetown. This long-overdue book provides a comprehensive guide to the Island’s terrestrial and marine mammals. Rooted in historical accounts and local research, it illuminates the lives of PEI mammals large and small.

New Vital Signs report provides snapshot of the quality of life on PEI

A new report from the Community Foundation of PEI (CFPEI) and UPEI’s Institute of Island Studies provides a snapshot of the quality of life and well-being on Prince Edward Island. Vital Signs brings together publicly available research data, the analysis of subject experts, and focus group feedback from private, public, and not-for-profit sectors from different regions of the Island. The result is an easy-to-digest, comprehensive look at a wide range of interconnected topics from health to housing to education and the environment.

Island Lecture Series December Lecture: Visiting scholar Dr. Dacia Leslie to speak about Jamaica's prison system

The Island Lecture Series December lecture features a visiting scholar from Jamaica, Dr. Dacia Leslie, speaking about Jamaica’s prison system: “Don’t Discard the Utilitarian Aims”: Revisiting the UK Prison Offer. The lecture will be held Tuesday, December 10, at 7 p.m. in the SDU Main Building Faculty Lounge on the UPEI campus.

AVC hosts community workshop about dental care for pets

Dr. Mike West, community care clinician at the Atlantic Veterinary College, will give a public workshop about the importance of dental care for pets on Thursday, November 21, at 7 pm, in AVC's Lecture Theatre A.

Good dental health is just as important for pets as it is for people, but it is often overlooked. By the age of three, 70 to 80 per cent of dogs and cats show signs of dental disease. Dr. West will talk about the signs of dental disease in pets and ways to help their teeth and gums stay healthy.
