UPEI health researchers seeking participants with cancer for exercise training program

Researchers from UPEI’s Active Living Lab are seeking people with cancer, or who have previously had cancer, to participate in exercise programs in Montague and Charlottetown. In Charlottetown, the exercise program is open to participants who have been previously diagnosed with any type of cancer. In Montague, the program is open to anyone who has been previously diagnosed with breast cancer.

Visiting Killam Fellow maps 50 years of farm history on PEI

A visiting Killam Fellow from Arizona is helping UPEI’s GeoREACH LAB with a mapping project for agricultural land use on Prince Edward Island. The Back 50 Project is led by Alexandra Neumann, Killam Fellow and undergraduate student from Arizona State University’s Barrett, the Honors College. She is supervised by Dr. Josh MacFadyen, UPEI’s Canada Research Chair in Geospatial Humanities.

Dr. Amy Hsiao named a Fellow of Engineers Canada

UPEI’s Dr. Amy Hsiao was recently named a Fellow of Engineers Canada. Dr. Hsiao is an associate professor in UPEI’s Faculty of Sustainable Design Engineering (FSDE). The fellowship is a national honour for individuals who have given noteworthy service to the engineering profession through their work with Engineers Canada or its provincial and territorial engineering regulators.

Hsiao was nominated for the honour by Engineers PEI. The fellowship was bestowed at the recent annual general meeting of Engineers PEI.

The Insight Approach to Communication and Conflict

Members of the UPEI community are invited to a workshop on practical approaches to communication and conflict with Dr. Cheryl Picard, a member of the Applied Communication, Leadership & Culture faculty, from 24 January at 6pm to 25 January at 5pm. The workshop is free, but participants are asked to commit to the entire event. Dr. Picard is a leading scholar and practitioner in the skills of mediation and conflict resolution. She is the founder of the insight approach, a learning-centered method of mediation which will be the subject of the workshop.

UPEI Concert Choir performs The Messiah–Part 1 (rescheduled)

The UPEI Concert Choir, under the direction of Sung Ha Shin-Bouey, will perform The Messiah-Part I (plus the Hallelujah Chorus), in collaboration with the Atlantic String Machine and the UPEI Voice Majors as soloists. Other ensembles sharing the stage will be the UPEI Chamber Singers, Le Ragazze Girls Vocal Ensemble, and the Ragazzi Jrs Singers in collaboration with pianist Leo Marchildon.

The concert will take place at UPEI’s Dr. Steel Recital Hall on Sunday, December 8, 2019, at 2:00 pm.

Tickets can be purchased at the door for $15 for adults, $10 for students.
