Campus Notices
Dear Colleagues,
You are invited to provide feedback on the current and future direction of UPEI Robertson Library during a focus group involving UPEI faculty and staff.
The Library is in the process of developing a new five year strategic plan and would like to hear from you about what is working well and what we can do differently in the future. Details of the focus group are as follows:
Date: Tuesday, June 2nd, 2015
Time: 12:00 pm to 1:30 pm, lunch will be provided
Location: Faculty Lounge Room 201 Main Building
An independent facilitator, Wendy Drake (MRSB Consulting Services) will facilitate your discussion and will ask you the following questions:
What is currently working well and should continue?
What is not working so well and needs to be enhanced, improved, or changed?
Are there services at other academic institutions that you feel should be offered at the UPEI Robertson Library?
What gaps or challenges should be addressed?
What opportunities should be pursued in the next 5 years?
In your opinion, what is the most important priority for UPEI Robertson Library within the next five years?
Please RSVP by May 26th to Pauline MacPherson at pmacpherson@upei.ca.
Your feedback is appreciated!
Thank you in advance from the Robertson Library Team,
Mark Leggott (0460, mleggott@upei.ca)

Canadian Catholic Campus Ministers host an annual lecture named for their first Episcopal Liaison, Bishop Sherlock. This year's lecture is presented by Jesuit Brother Guy Consolmagno SJ, Vatican Astronomer. The event is 7pm, May 28 in the Duffy Amphitheatre of UPEI's Duffy Science Centre.
“Science is where I get to spend time with the Creator,” says Br. Consolmagno. “When God invites me to encounter him in the things that have been made, as St. Paul puts it in his letter to the Romans, God is setting up a game we get to play together. It is a game that, on top of everything else, tells me he loves me. And for that, I am grateful to be an astronomer.”
The Robertson Library would like to invite the campus community to the presentation by Rosemary Le Faive, a candidate for the Digital Infrastructure and Discovery Librarian position.
This presentation will be held on:
Wednesday May 13 at 3 pm in the Don and Marion McDougall Hall (MCDH) room 242. The presentation topic chosen by the Library committee is, “Considering the range of resources and services that the academic community needs from libraries today, how do academic libraries ensure they will continue to be relevant in the next 10 years?"
Everyone is invited to attend.

CURIE is a reciprocal insurance exchange for universities across Canada who share losses arising from their operating risks. An inspector contracted through CURIE will be conducting laboratory inspections on campus on May 19 & 20. The Health and Safety Advisor and/or the Biosafety Officer will be accompanying the inspector on these days, as well as possibly a safety committee chair.
The lab inspections will be covered as a part of CURIE's role of providing a range of risk Management and loss protection services. The inspector, Andrew Steeves, will spend 5-10 minutes per lab. Upon his completion he will issue a report to the University listing the issues, risks and impact. This service is expected to be a valuable exercise as Andrew has expertise in areas such as building code, fire code & chemical storage.
Note that the local safety committees will not be required to complete their annual inspections for these higher risk areas in 2015.
Your cooperation is appreciated in sharing information during these inspections as well as to those who will be involved with follow up actions. If there are any questions please contact Denise Bustard, UPEI Health and Safety Advisor at dbustard@upei.ca or ext. 0516.

Hello Everyone:
Michelle Shepherd (a devoted client and patron of the College) is organizing a big garage sale here in Charlottetown on Monday, May 18, 2015, with all proceeds to go to AVC's Teaching Hospital to purchase a wireless ECG monitoring system for ICU and for portable use.
Michelle was really struck by the kindness and care her dog, Daisy, received from multiple services in the Teaching Hospital. Thanks to the efforts of many, including Michelle (and a grateful shout-out to the Students of the CVMA and several clients, who also have contributed generously), we are almost at the halfway mark for the goal of $20 000.
Students who are moving: why not bring your good-quality resellable materials to be sold at the garage sale? Anyone who is spring cleaning this weekend: why not donate the things you aren't using to this event?
Donations are welcome anytime, at 9 Montgomery Ave (just behind the Charlottetown Mall) and you can reach Michelle directly at 892-2314 or mikbec50@gmail.com.
Thank you in advance.
Dr. Etienne Cote

We in the Nepalese community on Prince Edward island are deeply moved by the devastating earthquake in Nepal that claimed more than 7000 lives and the unimaginable loss of property and infrastructure. In this period of grief, the global community is responding with an overwhelming support for the rescue, relief, and reconstruction. However, any support (big or small) will help the agencies in rehabilitation and reconstruction. We are initiating a campaign to generate support from the PEI community for this cause. All donations will be deposited to the Prime Minister's Disaster Relief Fund of Nepal. We are thankful to your contributions to help Nepal overcome the effect of this natural calamity.

We recently circulated information about a new initiative between the PEI science community and the PEI school system http://bit.ly/1GTBibq
We are now asking for your support. If you can assist please follow the link http://goo.gl/forms/AmA7uCGsGS to fill out the form online.
We are excited about the future possibilities this new initiative holds for bridging the gap between the science community and our Island students. The new initiative will allow our students, teachers and schools to interact with our local science community and learn more about the greater world of science.
We would like to thank you in advance for your continued support to the students, teachers and classrooms of PEI schools and look forward to sharing this new resource information across the science community.
Please contact me if you have any questions or comments.

This is a reminder that the final public consultations will occur on May 12th, 1:30-3:00 and May 19th, 10:30-12:00. Both sessions will take place in the Faculty Lounge, Main Building.
Eight scenarios have been developed to guide further discussions during the for public consultation sessions. These stem from our deliberations on the feedback that we received from our April public consultation sessions where specific questions were used to guide discussions. We identified areas in need of clarification in order to provide additional input on critical parts of the academic plan. Feedback received from the open sessions will be used to build specific sections of the plan.
The scenarios refer to real or simulated situations on campus where we would need to apply our academic values. We encourage you to provide your feedback by participating in the public sessions or to your thoughts on these questions through email at davcormier@upei.ca.
To register for the sessions, please use the following link:
