The monthly UPEI & Friends Neuroscience Journal Club will be held Friday June 14, 2019 from 3-4 pm in the "fishbowl" conference room of the Duffy Research Centre (NRC). All faculty, staff and students with an interest in neuroscience research are very welcome so wake up your brain and spend an hour with some like-minded friends and colleagues. On Wednesday June 12, 2019, IT Systems and Services will be conducting routine maintenance on the myUPEI portal from 10 pm to 12 am (midnight). During this time there may be intermittent access and performance issues with accessing and using myUPEI and the Self Service functions.

We encourage students, faculty, and staff that may need documents or links located on myUPEI to plan ahead and bookmark or download the resources they may need during this period.

Games are compelling for young and old alike. Adding game elements to your course is one way of enhancing your students' engagement. In this workshop you will learn about basic game elements and how they can be used both in online and face-to-face teaching environments. Be sure to bring a set of headphones or earbuds with you. This workshop takes place on Wednesday, June 19th from 10:30 to 11:30 am in Room 265 of the Robertson Library. REGISTER

In a flipped classroom learners engage with lectures or other materials outside of class to prepare for an active learning experience in the classroom. Flipping some classes can add some variety and a change of pace and create more interest for both the learners and the instructor. This workshop will introduce you to flipped instruction tools and techniques that can aid in creating a more active and engaging learning environment. This workshop takes place on Wednesday, June 26 from 10:30 to 11:30 am in Room 265 of the Robertson Library. REGISTER

International graduates from post-secondary institutions on PEI who wish to settle in the province are invited to a celebration and information meeting on Thursday, June 13, 5:30–7:30 pm, in the Florence Simmons Performance Hall, Holland College, 140 Weymouth St., Charlottetown. The event is open to international graduates and international students from the University of Prince Edward Island, Holland College, and College de I'Île, who are in their final year of study. It will feature stories told by recent graduates who are established on PEI, networking opportunities with professionals and employers, and food provided by international vendors.

Other organizations involved include the Government of PEI, ACOA, La Coopérative d’intégration francophone de l’Île-du-Prince-Édouard, PEI Network, PEI Association for Newcomers, and approximately 10 employers who will share their experiences of hiring and working with international students from their point of view. The event is free, but pre-registration is required. To ensure that the most accurate and up to date information is submitted for online tuition waivers, Human Resources will be adhering to the following submission timeline for online employee and spouse/dependent tuition waiver forms:

Fall semester – no earlier than August 1
Winter semester – no earlier than December 1
Summer semester – no earlier than April 1

For any forms submitted prior to these dates, the Staff/Faculty member will be notified and requested to resubmit their form following the above noted submission timeline.

This comprehensive two-day course offers first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) skills for those who need enhanced training as a work requirement (high risk areas).

Cost of registration will be covered by HSE for all UPEI faculty and staff, including students who require training for on-campus employment. Students who do not require training for on-campus employment are welcome to attend; however, the cost of registration will not be covered. Please note, lunch will not be provided.

As space is limited, please pre-register by contacting Sarah Sudworth before June 13th, 2019 via email (ssudworth@upei.ca) or by phone (902-566-0901).

Come and learn more about computing resources available through your desktop to help you in your research. These include more computing power and storage to enable you to handle large data sets, build complex models, or mine data in innovative ways, as well as create new analytical tools, use cloud computing, and collaborate easily. There is lots of training and ongoing support, and local on-campus help will soon be available. Access is free for researchers, and your data stays in Canada.

For those currently using our resources, you will also find out what’s happening with national and local digital research infrastructure, our new Atlantic Canadian system coming this summer, training and other plans.
