The Department of Companion Animals at the Atlantic Veterinary College, UPEI, will be interviewing candidates to fill a tenure-track faculty position in Anesthesia. Each candidate has been asked to present two (2) thirty-minute seminars; one that should be geared towards 3rd year DVM students and one a presentation of their research interests.

Our third candidate will be on-campus Tuesday and Wednesday of next week.

Dr. Patrick Burns received his BVSc from the University of Queensland (1992) and in 2005 he completed a residency in Anesthesia and Critical Care at the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Burns is a diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Anesthesia and Analgesia (2006). Dr. Burns is currently Head of Equine Anesthesia, and Project Manager at Langford Veterinary Services at the University of Bristol.

Games are compelling for young and old alike. Adding game elements to your course is one way of enhancing your students' engagement. In this workshop you will learn about basic game elements and how they can be used both in online and face-to-face teaching environments. Be sure to bring a set of headphones or earbuds with you. You can attend this workshop on either Thursday, May 23rd or Wednesday, June 19th from 10:30 to 11:30 am in Room 265, Robertson Library. REGISTER
 

On Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, May 15, 16, and 17, 2019, the Faculty of Graduate Studies will be holding its annual UPEI Graduate Studies and Research Conference.

These three days are a celebration of the accomplishments of our graduate students and their research efforts. Over the course of the three days, graduate students from multiple faculties will present their research orally.

Opening ceremonies are schedule to begin at 9:00 am on Wednesday, May 15, 2019. Students (undergraduate and graduate), researchers, and faculty are encouraged to attend as much of the conference as their schedule permits.

Most activities will occur in McDougall Hall, in the Alex H. MacKinnon Auditorium and Schurman Market Square. There is a no-cost registration to facilitate planning and communication to participants.

The UPEI Brass and Woodwind Summer Studios 2019 will take place June 24-29 in the Steel Building. This week-long chamber music workshop is an exciting opportunity for motivated young brass and woodwind students aged 14-18 to hone their musicianship, improve their technique, and meet like-minded young musicians. Students take part in individual lessons with UPEI music faculty, enjoy group rehearsals and performances, and participate in creative workshops, all within the welcoming environment of the UPEI Department of Music. Open to flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, French horn, trombone, euphonium, and tuba students.

Come to the UPEI Health & Wellness Centre on May 17th (World Hypertension Day) for a free Blood Pressure (BP) Check and the opportunity to win a home BP monitoring machine. Every individual who has a BP check between 9:00 - 12:00 pm will be entered into a draw for a home BP monitoring machine. No need for appointments, just drop in!

Following 29 years of teaching in the Music Department at UPEI, Dr. Greg Irvine will be retiring at the end of this academic year. On Sunday, May 19, 2019 at 7:00 PM you are welcome to gather at the Pourhouse in downtown Charlottetown to celebrate Dr. Irvine. Alumni, current students, colleagues, friends, supporters will have the opportunity to speak with Greg, while enjoying food and drink, and the fellowship of one another. There will be a few toasts and an opportunity of an open mic for those who wish to recall special moments of Dr. Irvine's career. The UPEI Health & Wellness Centre wishes to invite you to come and be "scanned". In partnership with the Canadian Cancer Society, we are hosting a Sun Safety Clinic/Coffee Break on May 14th from 10:00-12:30 pm. There will be a 30-minute presentation at 10:30 am (repeated at 12:00 pm) and you will be able to put your head in the sun scanner to find out if you have experienced skin damage from the sun. Drop by between 10:00-12:30 for coffee, a scan and presentation.

 

The Faculty of Sustainable Design Engineering is delighted to announce the Call for Applications for the third offering of ProGRES at UPEI this summer.

ProGRES (Promoting Girls in Research in Engineering and Sustainability) is a summer research opportunity at the FSDE at UPEI for high school girls going into grades 11 and 12. The selected students will work on their own independent research projects with a woman faculty researcher, graduate student, or undergraduate student, who will be the ProGRES student’s direct mentor. Throughout the five-week period, the selected ProGRES students will also have other unique opportunities to learn what Engineering is, and what engineers do, on a daily basis.

This year the Rotaract Club of UPEI will be working with Easter Seals PEI. Every year Easter Seals hosts an annual auction, to raise money to help Islanders living with disabilities. Rotaract will be collecting any new items or gift certificates persons might want to donate until May 22nd.

Anyone interested can drop off their donation on Dalton Hall 4th Floor at the International and Recruitment Office.

The deadline for Animal Care Protocol Submissions (new, renewal, or amendment) is Friday, June 7th for the June meeting. 

Ensure you download the current forms from http://www.upei.ca/research/research-services/research-certifications/animal-care, use the most current Adobe Reader to complete forms (only current forms will be accepted). To view any UPEI ACC SOPs and Codes of Practice, they can be accessed through myUPEI at https://portal.upei.ca/facultystaff/administrativeservices/AVCAnimalCare/Pages/default.aspx

Both the signed hard copy and electronic protocol submission must be submitted by the deadline date.
