Providing content for a course can be easy to do. Figuring out how to explain to students what that content will do to them and for them can be far more challenging. There are numerous ways to describe learning and just as many opinions as to which is best. Are learning targets even necessary? Facilitated by the E-Learning Office, this webinar will take place on Wednesday, May 20th from 10:30 to 11:30 am. REGISTER

With the increase in quality and quantity of cognitive sciences research over the last few years, what of it can be usefully applied to teaching? This workshop aims to summarize that research on learning and memory and provide instructors with tips for integration into their teaching. Facilitated by the E-Learning Office, this workshop takes place online on Wednesday, May 13th from 10:30 to 11:30 am. REGISTER

While online learning creates many opportunities to reduce barriers experienced by students with disabilities, it also creates new challenges for accessibility. For example, students with seizure disorders, acquired brain injuries, concussions and migraines may find working on the computer for long periods of time challenging and may require flexible deadlines or due dates. Follow this link to an Online Accessibility Services Check List. You will find helpful resources there.

The E-Learning Office is hosting UPEI's 3rd Teaching Community Conference online this year on May 5th. The conference will feature a keynote presentation from Dr. Bonnie Stewart & Dave Cormier at 10am. The conference will also feature synchronous sessions where presenters will facilitate their sessions live through Blackboard Collaborate, as well as asynchronous sessions which will be videos posted on the Teaching Community Conference website.

For more information and to register please visit http://upei.ca/teachingcommunityconference

If you have any questions please contact elearning@upei.ca

On Wednesday, May 6, IT Systems and Services (in conjunction with the E-Learning Office) will be upgrading the UPEI Online Learning Management System (Moodle) to a newer version. The Arts Equity and Inclusion group is not letting a pandemic and physical distancing stop us! Equity and inclusion continue to be important emphases to our work in the university, no matter where or how we’re doing that work. So – let’s meet online and continue our discussions. For our next reading group meeting we’ve selected chapter 4, “Universal Design,” from Academic Ableism: disability and higher education, by Jay Dolmage. The library has the ebook, and we’ve downloaded the chapter into our google folder too: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1C-Kp3Rgic3p4Beu_26WK5h4i0ZD4LZmv?usp=sharing.

We’ll be meeting via Zoom, on Tuesday, May 12, at 11:00am. Please send an email to Andrew Zinck, at azinck@upei.ca so he can add you to his invite list for this event.

Hope to see a lot of you there!
