Community Workshop Series: Pets and Cancer
Like humans, pets can be affected by cancer. Many cancers can be treated, and some can be cured.
Dr. Pierre Amsellem, Small Animal Surgeon at the Atlantic Veterinary College, will discuss pets and cancer, including types and causes of cancer in animals; prevention and detection, new diagnostic and treatment options, goals of treatment, and quality of life issues.
Everyone is welcome, admission is free and refreshments will be served.

Film Showing: Queen of the Sun
QUEEN OF THE SUN: What Are the Bees Telling Us? is a profound, alternative look at the global bee crisis from the award-winning director, Taggart Siegel of THE REAL DIRT ON FARMER JOHN. Join the Department of Biology, Cinema Politica and the Cooper Institute for a film screening on Tuesday, May 21 at 7:00 pm in AVC Lecture Theatre A.
Taking us on a journey through the mysterious world of the beehive, and the catastrophic disappearance of bees, this engaging and ultimately uplifting film weaves an unusual and dramatic story of the heartfelt struggles of beekeepers, scientists and philosophers from around the world including Michael Pollan, Gunther Hauk and Vandana Shiva. Together they reveal both the problems and the solutions in renewing a culture in balance with nature.
This spellbinding documentary explores the long-term causes that have led to one of our most urgent global food crises, illuminating the deep link between humans and bees. The story unveils 10,000 years of beekeeping, highlighting how that historic and sacred relationship has been lost.

2013 UPEI Panther Golf Classic
The 2013 UPEI Panther Golf Classic presented by Stewart McKelvey is set for July 26, 2013 at Green Gables Golf Course. Everyone is welcome! Entry Deadline is July 5, 2013.
Registration Fee: $650.00/ team of 4 paid at once; or $170 per golfer
Funds raised from the tournament go towards the UPEI Alumni Engagement Athletic Awards which are granted annually to deserving members of our Varsity Sport Teams who demonstrate an interest in furthering public and alumni interest in their respective sports.

First Year Registration
From May 29-June 7, the Registrar's Office will be holding first-year registration for all students beginning at UPEI in September 2013. This registration will take place in two separate sessions--9:00 am and 1:00 pm–-daily in the language lab of the Robertson Library. There will also be a parents' lounge in the current periodicals study area on the library’s second floor.

Vet Health Global 2013 to tour AVC
Participants in Vet Health Global 2013, North America's premier international animal health & nutrition business conference, will attend a tour of the Atlantic Veterinary College on Monday, June 10 at 8:30 am. The tour will include an overview of the Centre for Veterinary Epidemiology Research, Biomedical Sciences, the Centre for Aquatic Health Sciences and Maritime Quality Milk.
Dr. Tim Ogilvie AVC Vet Camp
The first week of Junior AVC Vet Camp is scheduled for July 8 to July 12. Students in grades 7-9 will be "living the dream" learning about veterinary medicine. They will be participating in activities such as pathology, anatomy, toxicology, pet first aid, a visit to a dairy farm and many others.
