Dr. Chris Hauton will be giving a seminar on Thursday, July 18, at 2:00 pm in AVC Lecture Theatre A. His seminar is entitled: "Is there any scope to exploit the crustacean immune system for disease control - Have we reached a dead end and, if not, where might we go next?" Dr. Hauton is from Ocean and Earth Science, University of Southampton. Everyone welcome.

The St. Dunstan’s University (SDU) class of 1963 will celebrate its 50th reunion at this year’s UPEI Summer Reunion Weekend, July 24–28. Kicks for Cam is a fundraising event at the UPEI turf and track on July 14 from 12:00 - 4:00 pm for Cameron O'Hanley. Cameron sustained serious injuries in a motor vehicle accident on Monday, June 17th and was airlifted to Halifax where he will remain for an undetermined amount of time while he recovers. The event will include a tailgate BBQ, a silent auction, live music and soccer games. UPEI is proud to be a sponsor of this fundraising event.

Three UPEI musicians will perform in a recital on Sunday, July 28, 7:30 pm, at the Dr. Steel Recital Hall, UPEI campus. Echo Lau, piano; Branden Kelley, percussion; and Lucas McPhail, saxophone, will be attending the 2013 National Competition for The Federation of Canadian Music Festivals from August 8–10, at Sir Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo, Ontario. Echo will be accompanied both here and in Waterloo, by Frances Gray. Branden and Lucas will be accompanied by Frances McBurnie. Admission will be by donation to assist Echo, Branden, and Lucas with expenses as they travel to Waterloo for this competition. Mark Alexander Robbins, BSc. will defend his Master of Science thesis entitled: Assessment of the Face Validity, Construct Validity, and Etiological Validity of a Novel Animal Model of Schizophrenia All are welcome to attend.

Dr. M. Jake Pushie, Molecular and Environmental Science Research Group, University of Saskatchewan will present a research seminar on Friday, July 19th, 2013 at 10:30 am. Dr. Pushie’s presentation is entitled “Computational Chemistry and Synchrotron Radiation Illuminate the Bioinorganic Chemistry of Human Health and Disease Pathogenesis". The seminar will be held in Room 104 in the KC Irving Chemistry Centre. All are welcome to attend.

The University has engaged an independent panel of three reviewers to conduct an assessment of programs and activities related to Island Studies. Panelists include Dr. Liette Vasseur of Brock University, Dr. Graham Whitelaw of Queen's University, and Mr. David MacDonald, PC. On July 25, Dr. Vasseur will visit UPEI to conduct the first site review and to meet with as many of the key stakeholders as possible. Interested members of the campus community are invited to an Open Campus Meeting with Dr. Vasseur on Thursday, July 25 from 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm in the main floor lounge area of Kelley Memorial Building.
