The Société Saint-Thomas-d'Aquin (SSTA), Collège de l'Île, and the Faculty of Arts and Faculty of Education at the University of Prince Edward Island are pleased to host the Honourable Jean-Marc Fournier, Quebec’s Minister responsible for Canadian Relations and the Canadian Francophonie at a public lecture on Wednesday, March 7.  Minister Fournier has been touring the Maritime Provinces, promoting co-operation between Quebec and francophone communities across the country. The visit to Prince Edward Island coincides with “Les Rendez-vous de la francophonie,” a collection of events taking place in Canada from March 1 to 21 celebrating French culture as part of the Journée internationale de la Francophonie (March 20). During his talk, Minister Fournier will address the topic, “building the Canada of tomorrow, together.” After the lecture, there will be a question period. The event will take place in Bill and Denise Andrew Hall, room 241, and begins at 11:30 am with a buffet lunch. Admission is free. Simultaneous translation will be provided. Robertson Library Movie Talks and Dr. Ann Braithwaite present the video documentary, "Toilet Training (Law and Order in the bathroom)" on Monday, March 5 at 4:30 pm. Everyone needs a washroom! And with UPEI expanding the number of all-gender washrooms to provide a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment for all members of the campus community, it is important to share information. This video provides great insight into the need for all-gender washrooms. Discussion will follow. Trailer: Healthy adults use the bathroom 4–8 times during the day and 1–2 times per night. “Toilet Training” surveys the policing of gender in restrooms–persistent discrimination, harassment, and violence towards people who do not culturally fit the social norms for men and women. Through anecdotal case studies, “Toilet Training” focuses on bathroom access in public space, in schools, and at work and related problems associated with “holding it". In support of UPEI Mental Health Week, Relationships Matter, Robertson Library is presenting My Depression: The Up and Down and Up of It in our Movie Talks series. Join us for this entertaining but enlightening film on the symptoms, emotions, and side effects of depression. It will help you to understand someone suffering from depression a little bit better and those who suffer from depression will not feel so alone.
