MHW 2018: How to Help a Friend
This interactive session discusses effective ways of communicating and supporting a friend who is in need. The session will be led by two UPEI students and a counsellor will be present to contribute to the session and offer support as needed. Light snacks will be kindly provided by the Office of the President.

UPEI Mental Health Week 2018 starts March 12
Students, faculty, and staff, welcome to UPEI Mental Health Week 2018! The call for committee members went out in January and a resounding group of 30 creative and caring individuals came together from across campus to establish the working committee. We hope you enjoy the events we have organized this year and that you use every opportunity to come and celebrate together—relationships matter.

Every day, be sure to check out the following Mental Health Week feature events:
Info Booth, Ball Pit & Build a Quilt (Monday–Friday: W. A. Murphy Student Centre (MSC) Concourse 10 am–3 pm)
Drop by the Information Booth. Volunteers will be on hand to welcome you and pass along handouts and resources. While you’re there, take a minute to add a patch to the quilt to show the relationships that matter to you and hop in the ball pit—you just might make a new friend.
Info Booth & Ask a Counsellor (Monday–Friday: Robertson Library Breezeway, and AVC Foyer)
Stop by for information, tips, resources, and ways you can participate in the week’s events. Plus...Have a question about UPEI's counselling services but not sure who to ask? Ask a counsellor! During Mental Health Week, there will be a box in both the AVC and Robertson Library at the MHW info booths. Submit your question using one of these boxes, and it will be answered by a counsellor. Your question and answer will be posted anonymously on the wall behind the MHW info booths in both buildings.
Zen Zone
Relationships matter, and one of the most important relationships you will encounter in your lifetime is the one you have with yourself. The W.A. Murphy Student Centre (MSC) Day Lounge will be designated as the Zen Zone for Mental Health Week. This space will serve as an area for relaxation, reflection, and mindfulness. Open Monday to Friday from 10 am–3 pm, members of the campus community are invited to come into the Zen Zone and participate in quiet activities such as colouring, journaling, reading, and reflective thought.
MHW 2018: Keynote Address with Wil Gunning
Wil Gunning is the captain of a fishing enterprise, a local entrepreneur of two companies, a mentor for young adults, and a keynote speaker who travels throughout Canada sharing stories of his experience in the foster care system. Wil speaks about why he went into care and the life experiences which has shaped him into the person he is today. He will share how he navigated his childhood and the importance of building relationships with others and oneself. Light snacks and refreshments kindly provided by UPEI’s Healthy Campus Committee.
A Q&A with Wil Gunning will follow his keynote from 12:30–1:30 pm in the Faculty Lounge, SDU Main Building.
This informal session will provide the opportunity to come chat with Wil and explore his story further.

MHW 2018: Karma Yoga
The Karma Yoga class is held every Tuesday from 12:10–12:55 pm at UPEI Chaplaincy Centre. This program provides a full body strength and flexibility workout which tones the body. Long stretches will melt away stress and create a feeling of deep relaxation. Please bring your own mat and/or towel and water.
Fee: Fee for this class is a donation to the UPEI food bank—$5 or food donation.

Grace Wedlake and Amy Rix are co-leads of Jack.org UPEI and will be sharing a Jack Talk on their own mental health journeys and how they supported one another along the way. Snacks provided by the Department of Workforce and Advanced Learning, Government of Prince Edward Island.

MHW 2018: Coffee With a Stranger
Come meet Mary-Kate Pond, a young professional who recently graduated with her MBA and is now working as the Client Relations Manager with ScotiaBank in Charlottetown. During her six years of undergraduate and graduate studies, she did not have an easy journey as she struggled with anxiety. By her second year she knew she needed help, and with supports in place, things started to turn around and she ended up graduating and receiving the honour of being named Valedictorian. Come listen and chat with Mary-Kate as she shares her lessons learned that have helped her navigate both her school and now her work life. Snacks kindly provided by the Robertson Library.

CANCELLED: Connecting Aboriginal Cultures - UPEI's Pow Wow
***CANCELLED*** Due to impending storm conditions, the UPEI Mawi'omi Centre has cancelled the annual Pow Wow for March 14, 2018. The event will be postponed until Fall 2018. We apologize for any inconvenience.
UPEI Mawi'omi Aboriginal Student Centre once again will host their annual Pow Wow on campus, featuring a Grand Entry at 10 am, followed by a mini Pow Wow with drumming, dancing, and cultural presentations. All are welcome!
