Update from the Health, Safety, and Environment team during COVID-19

UPEI’s Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) team issued a message to faculty and staff on March 30, 2020 with contact information and links to resources during the COVID-19 crisis. 

Liz Rostant-MacArthur, Manager of Health, Safety, and Environment said, “With many of our colleagues working at home and others holding down the fort on campus providing essential services, we wanted to virtually say ‘hello,’ and let them know that we are thinking of them during this difficult time.”

UPEI’s Active Living Lab offering online ergonomic assessments for Islanders working from home

Many workers are transitioning to work from home. Doing so without knowledge and implementation of ergonomic principles can create the potential for musculoskeletal strain. Kinesiologists from UPEI’s Active Living Lab are offering free online ergonomic consults for individuals on Prince Edward Island working from home to educate them about ergonomic best practices and provide suggestions on how to work as safely as possible during this period.

UPEI-led research team working to adapt hand-held mobile technology to detect COVID-19

A research team led by the University of Prince Edward Island has been awarded a research grant from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) to adapt a hand-held, portable technology to detect whether someone carries the coronavirus responsible for COVID-19.
