Campus Notices

Please be advised, the Student Union sent the following note to all students on March 21, 2013. Dear UPEI Students, Did you know that you're not supposed to have any tests in your classes for the next two weeks? Regulation 13:A - Examination Regulations http://www.upei.ca/programsandcourses/regulation-13-examination-regulat… Restrictions on Testing: No tests or examinations of any kind are to be held during the two-week period preceding the final day of classes, nor during any reading period, without the permission of the chair and the appropriate dean. In-class presentations and practical [lab] examinations scheduled on the course outline are excepted. What this means is that no professor is permitted to assign any test or exam until the start of the normal examination period. This is to allow students to focus on completing all assignments without the added distraction of tests. Academic regulations exist to govern the student’s academic course and degree requirements until graduation. Students often don't know about this regulation or they are scared to speak up. If you find yourself with a test next week, rescheduled or otherwise, the Student Union can help! We're students too, we get it - this time of year is stressful enough. If you would like the Student Union to ensure that the regulation has been followed, please contact your Executive Vice-President, Danielle MacDonald at executivevp@upeisu.ca with the following information: Course number Instructor Date of test Within twenty-four hours, you can expect a reply with a status update ensuring that this academic regulation is being properly followed. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Danielle MacDonald or your wonderful student representatives. Best of luck with the remainder of your semester.

The next Student Union update email will be going out Monday, March 25. If there is something you would like students to know, please send it to Chelsea at vpcommunications@upeisu.ca by Friday, March 22 at 4:00pm.

UPEI students will host the second annual Battle of the Jocks fundraiser on Saturday, March 23. The event showcases varsity athletes competing in hockey, basketball, and soccer games and skills competitions to raise funds for the Children’s Wish Foundation (PEI Chapter) and UPEI’s Passion for Life Award, an award created to honour Rene Ayangma, a member of the UPEI men’s soccer team who passed away in 2008. Beginning at 6:00 pm, athletes will compete in a 45-minute indoor soccer game at the Chi-Wan Young Sports Centre, followed by a basketball-skills relay and dunk competition. The third event will take place on the ice surface at the MacLauchlan Arena where teams will compete in a fast-paced hockey game. This year’s Children’s Wish Foundation honorary coaches are Shendrit and Dylan, two children living with high-risk, life threatening illnesses. Tickets can be purchased for $10 at the Mickey Place Kiosk at the W.A. Murphy Student Centre or from Carol Heartz, UPEI Athletics and Recreation, heartz@upei.ca. For more information on the event, or to volunteer, contact Julia McKenna at jpmckenna@upei.ca
