In an effort to improve services to employees and cut down on printing and mailing costs, UPEI HR will be launching online T4 slips for the 2013 tax year. Online tax slips will be available, through Campus Login, to current and former employees who received taxable earnings or benefits in 2013. Online T4s are official tax slips accepted by the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA). However, CRA requires employees to give their consent in order to access their tax slips electronically. Your consent will be valid for all subsequent tax years. New employees can grant consent for online T4s after they have received their first pay cheque. Employees who do not provide consent will have their 2013 T4s mailed to the address on file no later than February 28, 2014. Electronic T4s will be available sooner than the printed versions due to a lesser processing time. The consent form can be accessed through Campus Login (https://secure.upei.ca/cls/login.html). The consent form must be completed by January 31, 2014. For employees who file their taxes electronically, printing the slip is optional. You will be able to read the values for each of the tax slip boxes online as you are completing your income tax return. You will always have access to slips under Campus Login should you need them now or in the future. We hope to offer similar online service for T4A slips in the future, however, for the 2013 tax year all T4As will be printed and mailed no later than February 28, 2014. If you have any questions, please contact the Human Resources Department at 566-0514.

On Tuesday, January 21, 6:00-10:00 pm, join us for pizza and a chance to meet the 13 Campus Life Advisors who have been hired to host the Campus Life Lounge on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday evenings this semester. These student leaders will also be organizing events for our UPEI student community with the intent to promote a sense of belonging and engagement for both our on-campus and commuter students. Our goals are to foster an inclusive and vibrant community, develop leaders, and promote positive citizenship within the UPEI, local, and global communities. We hope to see you there!
UPEI will be hosting a blood donor clinic on January 30 from 11:00 am-3:00 pm at the Chi-Wan Young Sport Centre. This is an important clinic because of the lost donations this time of year due to illness. There is also an increase in the demand for blood as 8000 new PEI and NS donors are needed as part of the 160,000 new donors needed nationally. Appointments are recommended and may be made by calling 1-888-2-DONATE, (1 888 236 6283). Walk-ins are welcome. Allen Veale - UPEI mobile clinic facilitator - 566-0988

Join us Friday, January 24 at 2:30 pm in the 2nd floor lounge of the Kelley Building to celebrate the first recipients of the Katherine Schultz Research Recognition Awards. Dr. Schultz, who served as UPEI's first Vice-President Research, established these awards to honour UPEI faculty, staff, and volunteers who play a critical role in supporting research endeavours. The research success of an institution rests fundamentally on the excellence, dedication, and insights of its researchers and their teams of collaborators, trainees, students, and technicians. However, their success also rests on the work of those who might be labelled the “unsung heroes” of the research enterprise – that is, those whose work behind the scenes make it all possible. Without the dedication, professionalism, and commitment of these individuals, our researchers and their research endeavours would be seriously constrained. Please join us for the awards; a small reception will follow. For more information, contact Dave Atkinson at 620-5117, datkinson@upei.ca.
Please create a work order with Facilities Management https://www.myschoolbuilding.com to arrange for pickup of any surplus of computer equipment departments may have for disposal. Do not send this equipment directly to ITSS. Contact 566-0552 for any questions you may have.
