The Department of Psychology invites members of the campus community--students, faculty, and staff, and those in the wider local community to attend a public presentation by Dr. Tracy Doucette, a candidate for the tenure-track position in Behavioural Neuroscience. The presentation will take place on Monday, June 23 from 1:00 - 2:00 pm in room 215, Memorial Building. Dr. Doucette's presentation is entitled: "Schizophrenia: A Uniquely Human Disease?" Volunteers are needed for UPEI's 11th Lucy Maud Montgomery Institute (LMMI)'s biennial conference—“L.M. Montgomery and War”—which takes place June 25–29 in Charlottetown. The conference will include open discussions on war, conflict, the Canadian Home Front, gender roles, and more. The UPEI Alumni Association held its annual general meeting on Wednesday, June 18 and are excited to announce the addition of Colleen Parker (BIS'14) and Lisa Doyle-MacBain (BBA'89) to the Board of Directors. The Alumni Association would also like to extend a thank you to outgoing members Walter Bradley (SDU'67) and Andrew MacPherson (Dip.Eng'95) for their many years of service in a variety of roles. Outgoing President Bruce Davison (BA'93) announced Alicia Bremner (BBA'09) as the incoming President for a two year term (effective immediately), while Curtis Toombs (BBA'00) has accepted the role of Vice President. Term extensions were accepted by Ryan Bradley (BBA'94, MBA'11) and Claudia DeBlois (PWC'69). The Alumni Association representatives on the UPEI Board of Governors will be Andrew Bartlett (BBA'92) and Ryan Bradley and Colleen Parker will represent the Association on Senate. Please be advised that the Central Printing Office will be closed from Thursday, June 26 –Friday, July 25 inclusive. The office will officially re-open Monday, August 4. Any printing jobs required before the closure date should be submitted with that time frame in mind. There will be a UPEI biosafety training session: Thursday June 26 9:00 am to 12:00 pm AVC, Room 286A Topics to be covered include basic biosafety principles and how they are applied at the University of Prince Edward Island, as well as biosecurity training. UPEI Athletics is pleased to offer Flag Rugby for youth by Women's Rugby Head Coach Shannon Atkins from June 24-August 19 (8 sessions). The sessions will be on Tuesday nights (except July 1) from 6:00-7:00 pm and are designed for under 12 and under 10 girls and boys (must be at least 8 years of age). The fee is $80. The seminar will take place on Tuesday, June 24, at 10:00 am in room 287N - AVC McCain Learning Commons. Everyone is welcome.

The afternoon will feature oral presentations from Erin McCauley, Atlantic Veterinary College; Jessica MacKenzie, Business; Tom Hilton, Education; Krista Gill, Science; Abigail Franco Vazquez, Island Studies. These graduate students have been chosen by their respective faculties. A poster presentation by graduate students from all faculties will take place at 5:00 pm.

The Master of Arts - Island Studies program at UPEI is pleased to announce an opportunity for faculty, students and the general public to attend a major conference and summer school taking place on July 4 to 9 at UPEI. This event, called the Liveable Islands Conference, brings together some of the leading international and local experts in island studies to talk about issues surrounding islands of the world. You are invited to attend the conference portion of the event on July 4 (11:30-5:15) and 5 (9:30-4:30) consisting of 20 papers (and two lunches), for only $55. You are also invited to attend the two and a half day summer school on July 7 to 9, where five island studies experts provide intensive modules on topics such as 'small island economies', 'coastal communities and climate change', 'practising island studies', 'the military functions of islands' and 'defining islandness'. Summer school registration is only $110 and includes three lunches.
