Staff, students, and faculty are invited to attend UPEI Graduate Research Recognition Day on Wednesday, June 18 beginning at 3:00 pm in Don and Marion McDougall Hall, room 246.
The afternoon will feature oral presentations from Erin McCauley, Atlantic Veterinary College; Jessica MacKenzie, Business; Tom Hilton, Education; Krista Gill, Science; Abigail Franco Vazquez, Island Studies. These graduate students have been chosen by their respective faculties. A poster presentation by graduate students from all faculties will take place at 5:00 pm.
The Master of Arts - Island Studies program at UPEI is pleased to announce an opportunity for faculty, students and the general public to attend a major conference and summer school taking place on July 4 to 9 at UPEI. This event, called the Liveable Islands Conference, brings together some of the leading international and local experts in island studies to talk about issues surrounding islands of the world. You are invited to attend the conference portion of the event on July 4 (11:30-5:15) and 5 (9:30-4:30) consisting of 20 papers (and two lunches), for only $55.
You are also invited to attend the two and a half day summer school on July 7 to 9, where five island studies experts provide intensive modules on topics such as 'small island economies', 'coastal communities and climate change', 'practising island studies', 'the military functions of islands' and 'defining islandness'.

The UPEI Research Ethics Board Committee will not be meeting in July. The next full committee meeting will be held in August, 2014.
Ethics protocols involving more than minimum risk:
The full UPEI Research Ethics Board must review ethics protocols that involve more than minimal risk. The next deadline for submitting these protocols is Friday August 1, 2014. They will be reviewed at the August meeting. Protocols involving more than minimal risk that are received after August 1 will be reviewed in September.
Ethics protocols that do not involve more than minimum risk:
Other ethics submissions, including new applications, renewals, and amendments, that do not involve more than minimal risk, may be submitted at any time. They will be sent for delegated review as soon as all of the necessary forms are received.
Please ensure that you download and use the current forms from http://research.upei.ca/forms. Use Adobe Reader to complete forms.
Submit one copy of the signed, original protocol, and associated documents to 200 Kelley Memorial Building and send one e-copy of all documents to reb@upei.ca

The Atlantic Council for International Cooperation (ACIC)'s General Meeting and Symposium 2014, "Making Connections: Cooperating for a Sustainable Future" will kick off on Thursday evening with a public presentation by keynote speaker Joanna Kerr, Executive Director of Greenpeace Canada. She will present "How to be courageous in a planet in crisis," at 7:00 pm in McDougall Hall, Room 242. The event will be followed by a networking event. All are welcome to attend.
More about Joanna: Joined Greenpeace Canada in October 2013 after serving as the first female Chief Executive of ActionAid International, a global development organization based in South Africa and operating in 45 countries. Much of her career has been dedicated to women’s rights, international policy and climate change; as Policy Director at Oxfam Canada, as Executive Director of the Association of Women’s Rights in Development, and as a Senior Researcher at The North-South Institute. A Canadian, she has worked across Africa, Latin America, Europe, and Asia.
