Reid Burke, Executive Director, Canadian Mental Health Association and Anne Bartlett, UPEI Student Affairs, will provide information on services offered on the Island and with-in our UPEI community.

UPEI faculty and graduate students are invited to attend a special presentation on the mentorship relationships in graduate school on Tuesday, March 10 at 6:00 pm in room 113, SDU Main Building. The event is organized by the Graduate Students’ Association and Dr. Brian Wagner, Faculty of Science. It will begin with a 30-minute presentation by Dr. Wagner, followed by open discussion. Help us kick-off Mental Health Week with a keynote presentation entitled: "Our Story," by Mr. Darin Meek, on Monday, March 9 at 1:30 pm in McMillan Hall, W.A. Murphy Student Cenre. Stick around for an exciting announcement from the UPEI Student Union! Darin’s daughter, Chalyce, would have been a third-year university student this year had she not lost her battle with anxiety and depression. On January 13, 2012 Chalyce took her own life at the age of 17. Listen to her family’s story and how they, through support of each other and support from family, friends, and the community, have moved forward. Darin’s inspirational story will show us all how we can help one another in making our Island community a healthier and more supportive environment by taking action in addressing mental health issues and breaking down the stigma. This event is free for UPEI students, staff, and faculty. Complimentary refreshments will be provided.

John Nicholson will present the last of this year's public talks in the History of Medicine series on Wednesday, March 11, at 7:00 pm at the Health Sciences Building, room 301. This is a photographic history of the 10th Canadian Field Hospital from January to July of 1902. The photographs were taken by 20 year old William Alexander McKee from Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. He along with over 900 other Canadians enlisted with the last Canadian contingent to see active service in the South African Anglo/Boer War. The contingent consisted of the 2nd Canadian Mounted Rifles, the 10th Canadian Field Hospital and a team of 8 Nursing Sisters. All are welcome at attend!

Vagabond is presenting the controversial Canadian political play "Captives of the Faceless Drummer" by George Ryga, best known for "The Ecstasy of Rita Joe." The play opens in a near-future dystopian Canada. Harry, a respected diplomat, is hostage to a violent revolutionary cell led by the enigmatic Commander. The action bounces between past and present and offers glimpses into Harry and the Commander’s memories as they struggle to find common ground, despite overwhelming differences between them. The show runs in the Faculty Lounge of SDU Main Building, March 10 to 14. The doors open at 7:00 pm for a 7:30 pm curtain. There are no advanced ticket sales and admission is pay-what-you-can. Join Tofigh Allahviranloo from the Department of Mathematics at Islamic Azad University, Iran, for a seminar titled "Introduction to Fuzzy Differential Equations," on Wednesday, March 11 from 1:00 - 2:00 pm in Don and Marion McDougall Hall, room 328. In this talk we discuss Fuzzy differential equations (FDEs) and their applications. The talk starts with a background of the fuzzy numbers and their properties, fuzzy difference and fuzzy derivative. Fuzzy differential equations (FDE) ere considered as first order differential equations with fuzzy initial values. The solutions are of FDEs considered in analytical and numerical case. The next UPEI on-site training session in animal use and care will be held on Thursday, March 26, 2015 from 1:00 - 4:00 pm in AVC, Lecture Theatre A. This will be a three hour training session with handouts, based on CCAC Recommended Syllabus (exam included). The Canadian Council of Animal Care (CCAC) requires that all personnel involved with the use of animals in research, teaching, testing and service take this course. (A refresher course is required every 5 years).
