Campus Notices

The Canadian Biosafety Handbook, Second Edition,(CBH) a companion document to the Canadian Biosafety Standard (CBS) Second Edition is now available. While the CBS details the biosafety and biosecurity elements required by containment laboratories, the CBH provides information and guidance on how to achieve these specifications. Both should be readily available for all CL2 laboratory staff. It can be accessed at http://canadianbiosafetystandards.collaboration.gc.ca/cbh-gcb/index-eng.php

Migration from Novell Directory Services (NDS) to Microsoft Active Directory
Services (AD).

To support Project Beacon and to extend our capability to provision end users, ITSS is migrating from Novell Directory Services (NDS) to Microsoft Active Directory Services (AD). In order to do this, ITSS will need to visit your location and update software and configurations on your computer. We will need you to be available at this time to enter passwords to complete this process. We are estimating this process will take approximately 30-60 minutes to complete on each computer.

Migration from Novell Groupwise to Gmail

To improve our email service, maintain consistency and access from any device, anywhere, and to a have a universal email experience for all UPEI Faculty, Staff, and Students, UPEI will be migrating all users to the Google Apps for Education platform which includes Google mail web service.

The Google Mail service will improve uptime, availability and usability from the multitude of devices that users interact with eir email ( PCs, laptops, smart devices, mobile devices) and access from anywhere internet service is available. As well Google mail is an integrated part of Google Apps for Education and this integration offers many benefits such as collaboration.

ITSS is currently drafting a plan to schedule these desk visits and will be communicating with departmental staff to coordinate the date and time for each department migration.

ITSS asks that you make every effort to be available when your department is scheduled to be visited as the replacement of Windows XP computers and the migration of the email program is to be completed by August 26th. Users who systems have not been migrated by this time may experience network login and email issues.

ITSS thanks you in advance for your anticipated cooperation.

You are cordially invited to join Sean Casey, Member of Parliament for Charlottetown on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA), Dr. Alaa Abd-El- Aziz, President and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Prince Edward Island, and invited guests for a project announcement aimed at improving infrastructure within the Chi-Wan Young Sports Centre.

UPEI, through Interuniversity Services Incorporated (ISI), has recently partnered with Staples Advantage to offer a convenient and cost-effective solution to order office and stationary supplies. Staples Advantage will now be the direct, preferred supplier for the entire campus while the UPEI Bookstore will focus more on retail services.

As a next step and to facilitate the transition to our new supplier, we request that all UPEI personnel who have signing authority to purchase office supplies and stationary products please complete a Staples Advantage form.

This form will gather your name, delivery information and all University account(s) you will use to purchase supplies. This will allow Staples Advantage to set up your individual user accounts within their Eway.ca online ordering system. Staples Advantage will deliver directly to your individual campus locations so please ensure the delivery information you provide is the campus location you wish the products to be delivered to.

Staples Advantage will arrange and hold 10- to 15-minute WebEx training session(s) in the coming weeks (location, date and time to be determined) for those who will now be using the new ordering system.

Please take a moment to continue reading more about Staples Advantage and the University’s purchasing guidelines regarding what types of products should now be purchased through Staples Advantage.

Please note that Central Printing will be closed at 12:00 pm
on both Tuesday, May 17 and Wednesday, May 18 for the day.
