The deadline for Animal Care Protocol Submissions (new, renewal, or amendment) is Friday, March 3, 2017.

Both the signed hard copy and electronic protocol submission must be submitted by the deadline date. Ensure you always:

· Download the current forms found here.

· Use the most current Adobe Reader to complete forms and only current forms will be accepted.

· Submit one copy of original protocol with signature to AVC - North Annex, Biomedical Sciences Dept., Rm. 2302

· Submit an electronic copy to animalcare@upei.ca

The Committee requires at least one month for processing applications. Potocol submissions received after the deadline will be reviewed the following month.

Due to the storm closure on February 10, the Dr. Adam Johnston's seminar, “Stem cell regulation in tissue homeostasis and repair”, has been rescheduled for Friday, February 17 at 12:30 pm in the Duffy Science Centre Rm. 204.

Join us in the dining room of the Health Sciences building on February 16 at 1:00 pm to take part in standing up against family violence on PEI. Gloria Dennis, an outreach worker from Anderson house will give a presentation on the topic of family violence in Prince Edward Island. Coffee and tea will be provided and admission is by donation. Following the presentation (2:30-3:30 pm) the Applied Human Sciences Society will be hosting a candy buffet!

Registration for UPEI’s 2017 Summer Sessions and the release of the myUPEI "Student Planning" tool have been rescheduled to now begin Tuesday, February 28, 2017.

The myUPEI Celebration (and opportunity to learn more) that was originally scheduled for Thursday, February 16 has been rescheduled to Monday, February 27 at 12:00 pm in the W.A. Murphy Student Centre. All students, staff, and faculty are invited to visit the learning stations, and to enjoy the free swag and refreshments!

Career Services is hosting the annual Campus Job Fair on Wednesday, February 15, 2017. Departments and faculties that hire students throughout the year will be promoting their current and upcoming opportunities. Students are encouraged to attend and meet with potential on-campus employers.

We'll be in the Schurman Market Street (Louis W. MacEachern Market Street) from 11:30 am - 1:00 pm. Refreshments provided!

On February 15 and 17 from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm come on down to the W.A. Murphy Student Centre and show your support for the awareness and prevention of family violence. There will be a table set up with purple post-it notes, where you can write a positive message such as, "I'm taking a stand", to show your support. We will have the purple post-it's on display and there will be brochures, posters, awareness ribbons, face tattoos and treats!

Let's do our part in raising awareness and prevention on family violence.

There will be a UPEI biosafety refresher training session Thursday, February 23, 2017 1:00 – 3:00 pm in room 237, Kelley Memorial Builiding.

This session is required for those who attended the Basic Biosafety course in 2013 or earlier. It is not a substitute for Basic Biosafety. Topics to be covered include a review of basic biosafety principles, a practical approach to spill cleanup, and an update on what’s new at UPEI in the field of biosafety.

To attend the Biosafety Refresher training session, you must pre-register by contacting Kathryn Harrison, before February 17, 2017. Please email kharrison@upei.ca or phone 902-566-0901.

There will be a UPEI Basic Biosafety training session Friday, February 24, 2017 9:00 am – 12:00 pm in room 237, Kelley Memorial Building.

Topics to be covered include basic biosafety principles and how they are applied at the University of Prince Edward Island, as well as biosecurity training. This session is open to graduate students.

Please note: anyone who has not attended a training session since 2013 is required to take the Biosafety Refresher Course.

This Valentine's Day, the UPEI Chaplaincy Centre will be hosting an hour-long adoration in the chapel from 8-9am. This is a peaceful way to begin a day of celebrating love, and all are welcome to join.  Come to the quiet!

The PEI History of Medicine Society welcomes Dr. Erika Dyck, Canada Research Chair, from the University of Saskatchewan, who will give a talk on Monday, February 13 at 7:30 pm in the Faculty Lounge, SDU Main Building, on LSD and Psychiatry.

Her talk is entitled:“A Psychedelic Renaissance – Can we avoid tripping this time?”, in which she examines the historical clinical uses of LSD in Canada, including the facility that led to the coining of the term “psychedelic,” and the infamous Hollywood Hospital that offered psychedelic treatments for addictions.She explores some of the lessons that a close reading of LSD’s past has to offer to today’s “Psychedelic Renaissance”.

This is a public event. All are welcome!

In recognition of the outstanding performance and dedication of our faculty and staff, a number of annual awards have been created to acknowledge their efforts and achievements.

Up to 10 Presidential Awards of Merit for UPEI Faculty, Librarians and Clinical Veterinary Professionals and four Presidential Awards of Merit for UPEI Staff will be awarded in 2017.  These awards will be presented during a Celebration of Colleagues to be held on Wednesday, May 17, 2017 from 2:00-4:00 in McMillan Hall, W.A. Murphy Student Centre.

Susan Connolly, Associate Vice-President, Human Resources & Legal, will lead the process and chair the committee to select award recipients.

Nominations for both faculty and staff awards close on Friday, March 31, 2017.
