The use of sound feedback to assist in learning and correcting motor skills has some innate advantages. For example, sound leaves a person's eyes free for important tasks like avoiding obstacles, and ample psychological evidence shows a connection between the synthesis and perception of motion and sound. When motion is periodic, as it is with most forms of human locomotion, the sound feedback should also be periodic, i.e., rhythmic and synchronized to a person's motion. In this talk I will discuss and present computer vision and signal processing techniques for tracking people's movements. I will show how to track the underlying rhythm of a movement using input from cameras and/or wearable sensors. These tracking techniques will exploit the periodic nature of the person's movement to create a tracking signal that is also periodic. I will demonstrate how to use this periodic signal to create and control sound feedback that is synchronized with the movements of the person. This process is called Rhythmic Sonification.

Ryan A. Casey will present his Master of Education Thesis Defense on Wednesday, Dec. 2 at 9:00am in Memorial Hall, room 308. Thesis Title: “The Use of Interactive Whiteboards by Prince Edward Island High School Teachers”. All are welcome to attend.
ABSTRACT
This Masters of Education thesis used a questionnaire to examine Prince Edward Island high school teachers’ self-reported practices related to interactive whiteboards in their classrooms and the factors influencing their interactive whiteboard use. Despite research suggesting that interactive whiteboards have the potential to improve student academic achievement, the extent to which this technology can actually achieve these claims was likely to be dependent on many factors. Factors identified in this thesis as hindering teachers’ interactive whiteboard use and by extension, students’ learning was the understanding of what interactivity with an interactive whiteboard is, teachers’ attitudes towards using interactive whiteboards and the theoretical and practical training provided to teachers.

The International Relations Office is asking all former student volunteers to contact Richelle Greathouse at rgreathouse@upei.ca if they are still interested in being on the IRO volunteer list. In January, UPEI will be welcoming twenty-three students from Korea's Dankook University, and we would like to have a small number of volunteers available to assist with social outings. Students are also welcome to stop in to the International Relations Office, Room 226 in the Robertson Library and ask for Richelle. We gladly welcome new student volunteers.
Please note the following changes to hours of operation for the food services retail locations on campus:

- On Friday, December 4 at 2:00 pm , the Courtyard Café (W.A. Murphy Student Centre) will close for the Holidays.
- The AVC Cafeteria will close for the holiday break on Monday, December 21 at 3:00 pm.
- Beginning Monday, December 14, Samuel's (Robertson Library) hours of operation will be 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. This location will close at 3:00 pm on Wednesday, December 23 for the holiday break.
- With the exception of special functions and catering services,the Wanda Wyatt Dining Hall will close for the holidays, at 10:00 am on Saturday, December 19.

Friday night will be an exciting evening of Panther hockey as the Men's and Women's teams will play simultaneously at MacLauchlan Arena. The Women's Panthers host StFX at 6:45 pm in Arena B while the Men's face Saint Thomas, puck drop 7:00 pm in Arena A.
It will be Campus Food Bank Night with both teams asking fans to bring non-perishable food items to help stock the cupboard at the Chaplaincy Centre. The campus food bank is donation driven, open and available for UPEI students. Depending on finances at any given time of year, many students take advantage for donations and receiving support. There will also be a Raffle Draw with great Panther Prizes to generate revenue.
Special ticket pricing for the doubleheader includes: Purchasers of a Men's Hockey ticket will have free access to the Women's game; all Men's Hockey season ticket, All Access and Panther Package holders will have free access to both games.
Event organizer women's hockey student-athlete Teagan Pringle comments, "As exams and the holidays are quickly approaching, it is crucial to make sure our fellow students have enough to eat. I feel it's part of our responsibility as student athletes to support one another through this time".

The UPEI Music Department presents its annual Christmas Choral Concert on Friday, December 4 at 7:30 pm at the Dr. Steel Recital Hall, UPEI.
The concert, under the direction of Sung-Ha Shin Bouey, will feature the UPEI Concert Choir and Chamber Singers performing selections from Handel's Messiah and Fantasy on Christmas Carols by Vaughan Williams.
The Ragazze Provincial Girls Vocal Ensemble and Ragazzi Juniors Children's Choir will also take part in the concert as well as special guests The Atlantic String Machine.
