Join us this Friday, February 10 and Saturday, February 11, for the biannual DSJS sponsored “Difficult Dialogues” student conference at UPEI. Starting Friday at 1:30 pm, students from UPEI and other Maritime universities will present their work on a range of issues related to difficult, controversial, and even taboo topics. All sessions take place in Main 213; the conference social space, where schedules are also available, is Main 520.

Friday afternoon at 4:30, join us for the keynote speaker: Dr. Alexandre Baril, Dalhousie University, whose talk is entitled ““Rethinking Disabled and Trans* Embodiments: cripping trans* and ‘transing’ disability.”

All events are free, mobility accessible, and open to the public. Everyone is welcome – come for some or all of the events.

On Monday, February 6, UPEI is introduced a portal called myUPEI to students, staff, and faculty. Over time this new portal will replace UPEI Campus Login and provide you with online access to services such as:

• Course scheduling
• Registering for courses
• Student financial accounts
• Degree auditing
• Transcript requests
• Class petitions and waivers
• Scholarships and awards
• Submission of grades
• Room bookings

Students, staff, and faculty are encouraged to visit and explore myUPEI. You can login with the same information used to access your UPEI email account.

Some of your questions may be answered by visiting the myUPEI frequently asked questions webpage!
 

UPEI Student Affairs is offering Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) training to students, faculty and staff.

The MHFA program aims to improve mental health literacy, and provide the skills and knowledge to help people better manage potential or developing mental health problems for themselves, a family member, a friend, or a colleague.

The upcoming session will be held on February 21-22. Attendance on both days is mandatory for completion of the training.

All fees and related costs for MHFA training will be covered by UPEI.

Sam Sweet, MSc student, will present a seminar on Wednesday, February 8, 2017 at 12:30 pm. Sam Sweet's presentation is entitled "Recent Advances in Carbon Nanotube Synthesis and Applications".  The seminars will be held in the Regis and Joan Duffy Research Centre, Rm. 212.

There will be a UPEI Basic Biosafety training session Friday, February 24, 2017 9:00 am – 12:00 pm in room 237, Kelley Memorial Building.

Topics to be covered include basic biosafety principles and how they are applied at the University of Prince Edward Island, as well as biosecurity training. This session is open to graduate students.

Please note: anyone who has not attended a training session since 2013 is required to take the Biosafety Refresher Course.

To attend the Basic Biosafety training session, you must pre-register by contacting Kathryn Harrison, before February 21, 2017 by email, kharrison@upei.ca, or by phone, 902-566-0901.

There will be a UPEI biosafety refresher training session Thursday, February 23, 2017 1:00 – 3:00 pm in room 237, Kelley Memorial Builiding.

This session is required for those who attended the Basic Biosafety course in 2013 or earlier. It is not a substitute for Basic Biosafety. Topics to be covered include a review of basic biosafety principles, a practical approach to spill cleanup, and an update on what’s new at UPEI in the field of biosafety.

To attend the Biosafety Refresher training session, you must pre-register by contacting Kathryn Harrison, before February 17, 2017. Please email kharrison@upei.ca or phone 902-566-0901.

In recognition of the outstanding performance and dedication of our faculty and staff, a number of annual awards have been created to acknowledge their efforts and achievements.

Up to 10 Presidential Awards of Merit for UPEI Faculty, Librarians and Clinical Veterinary Professionals and four Presidential Awards of Merit for UPEI Staff will be awarded in 2017.  These awards will be presented during a Celebration of Colleagues to be held on Wednesday, May 17, 2017 from 2:00-4:00 in McMillan Hall, W.A. Murphy Student Centre.

Susan Connolly, Associate Vice-President, Human Resources & Legal, will lead the process and chair the committee to select award recipients.

Nominations for both faculty and staff awards close on Friday, March 31, 2017.
