AARMS Summer School: Financial Mathematics and Actuarial Sciences
University of Prince Edward Island July 3 – 28, 2017
This summer school is intended for graduate students and promising undergraduates. Each participant is expected to register for at least two of the three courses. Each course consists of three hours lecture sessions per day for two weeks. AARMS and UPEI will provide a certificate indicating course completion and facilitate transfer of credit to students' home university.

Kim Leeson from the Communications Security Establishment (the CSE is an agency of the federal government tasked with protecting Canadian security and information) will be on Campus on Monday, May 8 and will be hosting an information session on careers with the CSE. The session will be from 12 noon to 1 pm in Cass Science Hall, Room 101. The opportunities are mostly in areas such as Business and Information Management, Cybersecurity, GIS development, IT security, Network Analysis and System Administration.
Attendees must register in advance (by Thursday, May 4) and can do so by contacting Rita Stanley (rstanley@upei.ca) in the School of Mathematical and Computational Sciences.
UPEI will be officially rolling out its Moodle upgrade on the morning of May 5, 2017. As a result of the rollout process, courses from the Winter 2017 semester and prior will be inaccessible between 8:00 am and 12:00 pm Atlantic Time. There should not be any disruption to Spring courses already using the upgraded Moodle (moodle31.upei.ca).

The United Way Prince Edward Island and the Cooper Institute are excited to bring the film Us and Them to Charlottetown. The documentary will screen at the University of Prince Edward Island on Tuesday, May 9 at 3:00 pm in the Alex H. MacKinnon Auditorium, room 242 of UPEI's Don and Marion McDougall Hall. Filmmaker Krista Loughton will be in attendance.
Us and Them chronicles Loughton's personal experience befriending four chronically homeless people. Using the First Nations Medicine Wheel, she sets out to help them but they end up helping her. The story digs deep into the root causes of homelessness and addiction. Following the screening of the film, Krista Loughton will respond to questions from the audience about her experiences in making this film. The event wraps up with short presentations from local community experts who will share their thoughts on how Islanders can take action to end poverty and homelessness on Prince Edward Island. Applicants must have a minimum academic average of 80 per cent in courses you wish to tutor and have excellent communication skills. They also must be able to work with a variety of learning styles; have an interest in teaching; and be highly motivated, flexible, and reliable.

The most important day of year is quickly approaching! Convocation ceremonies will be held in the Chi-Wan Young Sports Centre on Saturday, May 13, 2017 at 10:00 am and 2:30 pm.
Mr. Stan H. MacPherson will deliver the convocation address during the morning ceremony, and will receive an honorary degree along with Ms. Judith Clark. Dr. Elizabeth Epperly will deliver the convocation address during the afternoon ceremony, and will receive an honorary degree along with Mr. Allan Curran.
Due to limited seating capacity, only guests with invitations will be admitted to the convocation ceremonies. Guests are asked to be seated fifteen minutes prior to each ceremony. If staff members would like to attend, please contact Eileen Kinch at kinch@upei.ca for an invitation.
Parking is available in Parking Lot “B” and “C” as well as the MacLauchlan Arena parking lot. Guests may enter the gymnasium through either the MacLauchlan Arena concourse or front doors of the Sports Centre. Convocation receptions will be held immediately following each ceremony in the SDU Engineering 1954 Lecture Hall at the School of Sustainable Design Engineering.

In order to allow ITSS sufficient time to install new and upgraded software in student computer labs so that students have the software resources needed for the fall semester (September 2017), we must receive requests including any installation media (CDs, DVDs, etc.) and any related licensing information such as serial numbers before June 1, 2017. (NOTE: Software should be Windows 7 compatible and is required to be licensed as network installations, not for single workstations only.)
Email all requests to Stephen at smahar@upei.ca. Any requests received after June 1 will be applied in the next round of software updates. ITSS appreciates your co-operation.
