Come out to the discussion on the challenges that women face in academia. This event is for all students and faculty members at UPEI. This town hall is inspired by the hashtag #ImModestWomen (check it out on Twitter) started by Dr. Fern Riddell as a response to the negative backlash she experienced on social media about using ”Dr” in her Twitter handle, and a recent piece in University Affairs, revealing that women are still outnumbered in the higher ranks. At this town hall, notes will be taken and a brief written by the GSA to provide to UPEI leaders.

There will be a UPEI blood borne pathogen training session: 
Monday, July 9 – 9:00 am – 11:00 am

This session is for those people whose research involves human blood, tissue, and other bodily fluids. If you wish to attend, you must pre-register by contacting Kathryn Harrison before July 5 by email (kharrison@upei.ca) or by phone (902-566-0901). Please provide your name, department, email address and phone number in your email or voice message.

 

Members of the Faculty of Education will be participating in an working retreat on Thursday, June 21 and Friday, June 22. Faculty offices, including the administrative office, will be closed on those dates so staff and instructors can attend.

Registration is now open for the UPEI Department of Music Brass & Woodwind Summer Studios 2018, running June 25-29. This week-long music experience is perfect for motivated young musicians to hone their craft and technique.

It's open to students from Grade 10 to second-year university studying any of the following instruments: flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, euphonium, French horn, and tuba. The tuition fee is $225 (financial assistance is available). For more information or to register, email Nicole Strum at nstrum@upei.ca

UPEI Firewall Upgrade - June 22,23

Systems Affected: Entire UPEI Network (inbound & outbound traffic)
Outage Times: Friday June 22, 8:00 pm - Saturday June 23, 7:00 am

Details
As a precursor to our network revitalization project, ITSS will be performing an upgrade of our campus firewall service. During this 11-hour maintenance window any network traffic entering or leaving the UPEI campus will be affected. Internal network traffic will continue to function normally.

Examples of systems that will only be accessible on Campus:
MyUPEI
Moodle
Medical Records System
File and Print services
UPEI Website

Examples of systems that will be only accessible off campus:
Google Apps and Gmail
Any external websites or systems hosted offsite (i.e. in the cloud)

The Faculty of Science Graduate Studies Committee invites the UPEI community to the presentation and defense of Patricia Malinski's MAHSR thesis entitled "Predicting home visiting program completion based on mothers’ socioeconomic characteristics and program perceptions”. Everyone is welcome.

The Faculty of Arts, Island Studies wishes to announce that Jocelyn Plourde, a Master’s student, will be defending his thesis entitled, “From Policy to Action – Renewable Energy in Samsø, Denmark”. It will take place Tuesday, June 19th, 9:00-11:00am in the AVC Bldg., Rm. 286C North. All are welcome.
