There will be a UPEI biosafety refresher training session on Thursday June 14, 2018 9:00 am - 11:30 am in AVC, room 287N.

This session is required for those who attended the Basic Biosafety course in May June 2015 or earlier. It is not a substitute for Basic Biosafety. Topics to be covered include a review of basic biosafety principles, a practical approach to spill cleanup, and an update on what’s new at UPEI in the field of biosafety.

To attend the Biosafety Refresher course, you must pre-register by contacting Kathryn Harrison, before June 4, 2018 by email (kharrison@upei.ca) or by phone (902-566-0901).

Please include your name, department, supervisor’s name (if applicable), email address and phone number in your email or voice message.

If you have any questions about this training session, please contact Kathryn at kharrison@upei.ca.

Providing content for a course is pretty easy to do. Figuring out how to explain to students what that content should do to them and for them is far more challenging. There are numerous ways to describe learning and just as many opinions as to which is best. Are learning targets even necessary? Come hear what the E-Learning Office has to say about targets for learning. Thursday, June 7th from 2:00 to 3:00 pm in Room 265, Robertson Library. REGISTER

Facilities Management will be operating with limited staffing on June 5 and 6, 2018. This reduction in staff is due to training sessions taking place. Please keep these dates in mind when you are submitting work orders for event set-ups/tear downs, deliveries and regular maintenance requests. This will not affect any priority work orders that are submitted during this time.

Your patience and understanding is appreciated as we continue our necessary training.

It is with great sadness that UPEI announces that Mr. Harry Baglole, the "godfather" of Island Studies, passed away peacefully late Tuesday night in Charlottetown. Harry was the founding Director of the Institute of Island Studies and the visionary behind much of what has taken place in Island Studies at the University of Prince Edward Island since 1985. He served on the IIS executive committee up until his death. Harry also played a central role in many of PEI’s cultural institutions such as Ragweed Press, The Island Magazine, the Macphail Homestead, the Bonshaw Hall, and the Vinland Society.

The University sends condolences to Harry’s family, friends, and colleagues. Flags have been lowered to half-mast in his memory. Visiting hours to be held at Belvedere Funeral Home on Sunday, June 3, 2018 from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm. A celebration of life filled with stories and music will be held at Spring Park United Church, Charlottetown, on Monday, June 4, 2018 at 7 pm with a reception to follow. Read the obituary

On Wednesday, June 6, 100% of proceeds from coffee purchases at Tim Hortons will go towards sending kids from low-income families to a Tim Hortons Camp.

The winner will be chosen by random draw and announced at 3:00 PM on June 6—be sure to get those entries in!

Planning is underway for Health & Fitness Week 2018, and the Athletics and Recreation department is seeking interested students, staff and faculty to join the planning committee.

As in past years, a variety of people on the committee are needed in order to reach the many areas of the UPEI community. Committee work will entail approximately 5 meetings between June and October in preparation for Health & Fitness Week which is scheduled for October 22 - 26. The planning committee will be responsible for brainstorming ideas to showcase the theme, "Be Strong, Be Healthy, Be Happy", setting the schedule and making the necessary contacts and bookings.

If you are interested, please email Angela Marchbank, amarchbank@upei.ca. The first meeting will be held Monday, June 4, 10:00 - 11:00 am in HSB 104.

UPEi wishes to inform the campus community of the passing of Dr. Satadal Dasgupta, Professor Emeritus of Anthropology, who passed away on May 27, 2018 in Halifax, NS. Flags on campus will be lowered to half-mast in his honour.

The University extends condolences to his wife Krishna; children Kaberi, Mohua, and Keya; and six grandsons. His life will be celebrated on Saturday, June 1 at 2 pm at JA Snow Funeral Home in Halifax, NS with a second memorial service to take place in Charlottetown in July. Read the UPEI article
