Join the Executive Directors of several PEI non-profit organizations for an informal discussion about negotiating values and mandates during a pandemic. How have they and their organizations balanced (or not) the competing pulls between fulfilling their values and mandates and the added demands of COVID-19?

Sponsored by Diversity and Social Justice Studies. For more information and the Zoom link, contact Ann Braithwaite at abraithwaite@upei.ca

This year, the University of Prince Edward Island launched the first-ever UPEI Panther Pitch competition as part of the Harry W. MacLauchlan Entrepreneurship Program. In January, twenty-five student teams were chosen to compete for support to develop their ventures. Since the competition launch, these teams have been receiving coaching from experienced mentors and refining their business plan to potentially win a portion of $45,000 in prize money to support their startup ventures.

Six of these teams will be selected to compete in a live semi-final Q & A session from 7:00 to 8:30 pm on March 24, 2021. Each team will present a five-minute pitch and face questions from a judging panel, as well as questions submitted from the online audience.

To mark this important occasion, Wade MacLauchlan, former premier of Prince Edward Island and UPEI president emeritus, will give opening remarks on behalf of the MacLauchlan family.

To attend the semi-final event virtually or to share this event with others, please register at: https://pantherpitch.eventbrite.ca

Are you hiring a summer student? Do you supervise students in your day to day work?

Health, Safety and Environment will be hosting two separate sessions for Supervisors put on by the PEI Workers Compensation Board (WCB) entitled: Young Worker Safety: Changing the Culture.

Participants will learn what is now known about the significant influence supervisors can have on young worker safety, and how employers and supervisors might capitalize on this. Participants will hear what young PEI workers say about their hesitation to raise their workplace safety concerns, and what they can do to encourage young workers to speak up.

The one hour Zoom Sessions will be held on:

Wednesday, March 10 at 9 am,  and

Friday, March 12 at 1:30 pm

To register for one of these courses, please contact Shelly Kavanagh at shkavanagh@upei.ca or at 566-0901.

In May, WCB will also be holding sessions on Student Safety directed at students. These sessions will be advertised closer to the date.

Prerequisites: Familiarity with some other programming language

A great deal of high-performance computing software is written in C, but few universities offer courses in the language any more. If you have to work with "legacy code" written in C, adding features, porting to a new machine, or patching errors, or if you need to write user-defined functions for engineering packages such as Fluent, then this workshop is for you.

This session will take place on:

Thursday, March 4 - 12 pm - 4 pm (Atlantic time)

You do need to have a laptop with a Mac, Linux or Windows operating system (not a tablet, Chromebook, etc) on which you have administrative privileges, as you will need to pre-load specific software packages.

Participants must register using their institutional / organizational email address (not a personal email, ie. gmail)

Instructions for how to join will be sent out one day prior to the start of the event.
