The Healthy Campus Committee, as part of the Employee Wellness Strategy, will be providing Yoga & Fascial Release Classes  for UPEI Faculty and Staff.  Brenda Dowel, Yoga Teacher E-RYT-1000 and Licensed Holistic Practitioner  will lead the four part series of 90-minute classes with a focused approach.

          1) HIPS & Glutes:   Wednesdays 10:00 am - 11:30 am, February 24, March 3, 10 and 17.  ONE (1) space available.                                 

          2) BACK & CORE:  Wednesdays 2:30 pm - 4:00 pm, February 24, March 3, 10 and 17. THREE (3) spaces available.

Two different sets of classes with an Anatomical Focus.   This series will include a comprehensive approach to the entire body while focusing on a particular area for optimal health and vitality.  

  •  Grounding; Psoas Release; Centering 
  •  Stretching what is tight and strengthening what is weak
  •  Fascial Stretching and Myofascial Releases, Yoga & Conditioning Movements
  •  Fluid and static movements for the Fascia/Connective Tissue
  •  Recognizing and addressing unhealthy movement patterns
  •  Relaxation and Integration

The free programming is offered to UPEI staff and faculty only on a first registration basis. Dr. Zelda Knight, Professor of Psychology, University of Johannesburg, candidate for the tenure track position with the Department of Psychology in the Faculty of Arts, will make two public presentations.

UPEI concussion research study seeks participants:

Charlottetown, PEI — A UPEI research group is seeking participants for a study to test a new method for assessing head injuries. Participants must be aged 16 to 27 years of age.

The team is looking for participants in the following categories:

1. Healthy people (non-concussed, no known chronic diseases)
2. People who have had a concussion within the last 36 hours
3. People who have had concussion symptoms for longer than three months but less than six months
4. People who have had a bone fracture within the last 36 hours
5. Boxers active in competition

February is Black History Month and the Black Cultural Society of PEI has a month of programming planned to engage and educate about the many cultures which make up the Island’s Black community.

This year’s theme is "celebrating our heritage for the culture", and the month will feature in-person and online events for Islanders to participate in, including several at UPEI. 

On Thursday, February 25, 2021, join the community for the BHM @UPEI Panel Discussion, from 5-6:30 pm at the Fox & Crow, UPEI's campus pub and café.

Our EFAP provider, LifeWorks by Morneau Shepell, has created orientation webinars for any Employee, Faculty member, and their dependents that want to know more about how their UPEI EFAP benefits work. Health, Safety and Environment is holding a UPEI Basic Biosafety Training session.

Topics to be covered include basic biosafety principles and how they are applied at the University of Prince Edward Island, as well as biosecurity training. This session is open to everyone including graduate students.

To attend the Basic Biosafety course, you must pre-register by contacting Shelly Kavanagh, before the end of the day February 19, 2021 by email (shkavanagh@upei.ca) or by phone (902-566-0901).

The UPEI Health & Wellness Centre has been notified by Dr. German that the Chlamydia and Gonorrhea molecular testing no longer has a backlog or supply issue. For women, vaginal self-collection or provider collection is again the preferred sample. For men a urine sample collected in the previous 24 hours is the preferred sample. The self-collection containers will be redistributed to campus washrooms the week of February 8th and samples are to be dropped off to the UPEI Health & Wellness Centre weekdays, and before noon on Fridays.  We will need identification to complete the lab requisitions and will send off your specimens for analysis. If you have questions about this program please contact the UPEI Health & Wellness Centre at 902-566-0616 or by email: healthcentre@upei.ca.  

The E-Learning Multimedia Development Grant is being offered for the third time as an opportunity for faculty and staff members to create a multimedia course resource with the help of the E-Learning Instructional Multimedia Specialist.

Office 2010 and 2013 end of life

Please be advised that Office 2010 and 2013 are approaching or have approached the end of their life and Microsoft will no longer be supporting these products. IT Systems and Services recommend any employee or faculty that is using Office 2010 or 2013 to please upgrade to the latest version of Office.  

All current staff, faculty, and students have access to Office 365 through their UPEI account. We recommend you use this version of Office.

To access Office 365 please go to the site https://portal.office.com

To log in, your username is your UPEI email address and the password is the same as your account password.

From the landing page select Install Office

Then select Office 365 apps to begin the installation.

You are allowed to download and install Office 365 to a maximum of 5 computers and 5 mobile devices.

For MacOS and IOS devices, you can also download the individual Office 365 applications from the Apple app store. On the first start-up of the application you will be prompted to log in with your UPEI credentials as indicated above.

For Android devices, you can also download the individual Office 365 applications from the Google Play store. On the first start-up of the applications you will be prompted to log in with your UPEI credentials as indicated above.
