Read President Keefe's message about COVID-19 protocols that was issued to students, faculty, and staff by email, which advises the campus community that masks will no longer be required in instructional spaces, effective April 28, 2023.

On Friday, May 5, a “Girls Get WISE (Women in Science and Engineering) Challenge Day” is being held at UPEI’s Faculty of Sustainable Design Engineering building. The day will cover the topics of science, engineering, math, and technology for girls in grades K-12 with age groupings of grades K-3, 4-6, 7-9 and 10-12.

Marked annually in Canada on April 28, the National Day of Mourning (or Workers’ Mourning Day) is dedicated to remembering those who have lost their lives or suffered injury or illness on the job or due to a work-related tragedy.

| Events

The University of Prince Edward Island will host an information session for students interested in pursuing a career in medicine or learning more about the new Faculty of Medicine and joint Doctor of Medicine (MD) program at UPEI in partnership with Memorial University of Newfoundland. The session will take place on Thursday, May 4, 2023, from 6:00–7:00 pm in the Kelley Memorial Building, Room 211.

On April 21, 2023, the PEI Department of Health and Wellness announced that eligibility for the meningococcal B (Men-B) vaccine program for the prevention of invasive meningococcal disease (IMD) is expanding to include more higher risk individuals. 

Beginning this month, the Men-B vaccine (two doses) will be available through the province’s Chief Public Health Office (CPHO) to students attending a post-secondary school and living in residence in PEI or out-of-province. The cost is being covered by the provincial government.

The UPEI Women’s Basketball Panthers are excited to welcome Grace Walton to their team for the 2023–24 season. The 18-year-old from Kentville, Nova Scotia, fits the mould of a defensive-minded player willing to take on any assignment.

Seventeen UPEI sustainable design engineering students spent their two-week study break earlier this year in rural Honduras where they built eco-stoves for six families in one community and did an engineering survey project in another town to ensure that the people living there have access to clean water.

UPEI's Vice-President, Academic and Research Dr. Greg Naterer updated students on the return-to-class plan, including the student impact payment, which will be made using the net savings that occurred from not paying faculty salaries during the strike. He also advised students on how to reach out if they believe they are not being reasonably accommodated during the remainder of the semester.

Two renowned scholars will give public lectures at UPEI this spring as part of the 2023 Korean Studies International Speaker Series presented by the UPEI Faculty of Arts and Asian Studies Program. Each lecture will take place in the Faculty Lounge, SDU Main Building, starting at 2:15 pm.
