| Atlantic Veterinary College

Students in AVC’s Class of 2023 are taking a big leap forward in their veterinary education this semester when they begin their hands-on technical training. An important part of their training is developing and practicing suturing skills using DASIE surgical models donated by Boehringer Ingelheim.

U SPORTS, the governing body for university sport in Canada, has announced that the 14th edition of Shoot for the Cure will be held virtually during the week of February 1 to 7, 2021.

Desiree Rehel, a student in the UPEI Department of Physics, won an award for an oral presentation she gave at the recent Canadian Undergraduate Physics Conference (CUPC).

Every year in February, Black History Month is celebrated in Canada. The Black Cultural Society of PEI has a developed a month of programming planned to engage and educate about the many cultures which make up the Island’s Black community, including several events at UPEI.

UPEI Student Affairs is excited to announce that Julie Pellissier-Lush has accepted the position of coordinator for the Mawi’omi Indigenous Student Centre on the UPEI campus. She will be working part-time on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.

The University of Prince Edward Island has dedicated the rooftop observatory atop Memorial Hall to the man who was instrumental to its installation more than 40 years ago.

| Atlantic Veterinary College

Dr. Laurie McDuffee, professor of large animal surgery at the Atlantic Veterinary College, has won the Animal Welfare Foundation of Canada’s Dr. Carol Morgan Memorial Award.
Established in memory of Dr. Morgan who passed away in 2015, the award is to be used for continued education and training-related costs in the areas of ethics and/or animal welfare for veterinarians working to increase the application of these subjects within the profession broadly.
