Jenna Mae Ellsworth and Elijah Miller named Panther Subway Athletes of the Week
Every week, UPEI Athletics and Recreation recognizes two student-athletes for their achievements and dedication to their respective sports. The UPEI Panther Subway Athletes of the Week for November 1 to 7 are Jenna Mae Ellsworth (women’s basketball) and Elijah Miller (men’s basketball).
Ellsworth is a fifth-year education student from Charlottetown, PEI, and a guard on UPEI’s women’s basketball team. The reigning U SPORTS MVP proved she still “has it” during a weekend sweep of the Dalhousie Tigers. Ellsworth averaged 28.5 points (on 63 per cent shooting), six rebounds, and three assists in the two wins, putting the Panthers atop the standings at 4-0. “Jenna Mae led the charge this weekend,” said Matt Gamblin, head coach of UPEI Women’s Basketball. “She has been extremely efficient so far this season and was essential in landing the weekend sweep.”
Miller is a second-year business major from Rexdale, Ontario and a point guard on the UPEI Men’s Basketball team. He guided the Panthers to a weekend split against the perennial champion Dalhousie Tigers. In the two games, Miller averaged 23.5 points per game (48.4 per cent shooting), 7.5 rebounds, and 3.5 assists. “Elijah is obviously scoring, but he is also facilitating and creating easy baskets for his teammates. He's rebounding and now really focusing on defending,” said Darrell Glenn, head coach of UPEI Men’s Basketball. “In my mind, he's one of the elite players in our league.”
