The Psychology Department would like to kick off another season of the 2013–14 Fiona Papps Colloquium Series on Thursday, September 12 at 3:00 pm in AVC Lecture Theatre B. Our first lecture of the series "Why Usually Honest People Sometimes Steal" is being presented by Dr. Will Cupchik, formerly Psychologist-in-Charge, Forensic Out-Patient Psychological Services,Clarke Institute of Psychiatry, Toronto. Dr. Robert Gilmour, VP Research/AVC Biomedical Sciences will present a talk entitled: "Low energy cardiac defibrillation” on Friday, September 13 in the Duffy Science Centre, Room 204, 12:30–1:30 pm. Everyone is welcome to attend.
"Help! My dog just tore down my blinds...and other behaviour issues in dogs and cats" presentation by Dr. Barbara Sherman (Animal Behaviour and Welfare, North Carolina State College of Veterinary Medicine)will take place on Friday, September 13, 7:00–8:30 pm. Due to very strong registration numbers, this talk will take place in the Don and Marion McDougall Hall, Room 242 (instead of AVC "A," as originally planned). This talk is part of this weekend's conference on companion animal behaviour and welfare - see awc.upei.ca/ for more information. The Saturday talks will remain in AVC lecture theatre A.
The fourteenth annual Recognition of Founders Ceremony and the H. Wade MacLauchlan Plaza Dedication will take place on Wednesday, September 25 in front of the Health Sciences Building at 12:30 pm (rain location McMillan Hall). A reception will take place after the ceremonies in McMillan Hall at 2:30 pm. Please RSVP to Rebecca Gass at rjgass@upei.ca or 566-0949.

Don’t miss the Atlantic Veterinary College’s 25th annual Open House on Saturday, September 28, from 10:00 am–2:00 pm. Learn about dogs at the Parade of Dog Breeds, visit the mini-zoo, have fun learning to gown for surgery, get your face painted, and much more. Take part in the pooper-scooper race and the stick-horse rodeo for kids aged three and over. And children can bring their favourite stuffed toys for a check-up by a vet student at our popular Teddy Bear Clinic. There will be displays by the UPEI Applied Human Sciences department, as well as Let’s Talk Science and community organizations. Bring the whole family! Admission is free.

His term began September 4 and we look forward to working with him over the next three years. Please join us in extending our thanks to Dr. Dany MacDonald, Department of Applied Human Sciences, for taking on the role of Acting Chair for the UPEI REB this past summer. Dr. MacDonald did a wonderful job and we appreciate the time and effort that he devoted to this role. Dr. MacDonald has agreed to resume his activity as Vice Chair of the REB.

Billets are needed from September 17–21 for students taking part in the 29th annual Canadian National Student Leadership Conference (CSLC) at Montague Regional High School. UPEI will welcome 750 of the CSLC students and approximately 250 advisor delegates on September 20. UPEI is a proud sponsor of this event and would appreciate any support from UPEI staff and faculty.
