Wind Turbine Dynamics Modelling in the Design Process

Dr. Matthew Hall, assistant professor
SSDE, room 212

12:00 pm, Thursday, September 21

Abstract:
Numerical dynamics models are the standard solution for verifying that a wind turbine design will perform well across the full range of expected operating conditions. Physical models, meanwhile, provide experimental validation to ensure that the numerical models are sufficiently accurate. This talk will overview both numerical and physical modelling approaches used in wind turbine design, including for offshore applications. One of the newest methods in this area is creating hybrid models which combine the best of both worlds. Recent proof-of-concept tests show promising results. New research with the UPEI wave tank will aim to advance these methods for use in floating wind turbine design.

All are welcomed to attend this weekly seminar. Learn about the innovative research and collaborations the faculty and graduate students are leading at the School of Sustainable Design Engineering!

ITSS Project Update: Migration from Novell to Microsoft

Over the past few weeks, ITSS has been migrating UPEI's file systems from Novell to Microsoft Active Directory. The final phase of the project involves migrating departmental printers and is expected to be completed over the next two weeks. Details and specific timelines for each individual department will be sent to department heads as far in advance as possible.

In most cases, computers will continue to print to the same printer; however, in some isolated instances, a visit from an ITSS team member may be required to complete the migration process. Should employees encounter printing issues following the migration, please contact the ITSS Helpdesk.

Join us for a directed studies seminar Wednesday, September 20, at 3:00 pm 278N, AVC McCain Foundation Learning Commons.

Speaker: Logan Bigelow, Biomedical Sciences
Title: Parkinson's Disease: Current Understanding and Future Directions.

For the final phase of our migration from Novell to Microsoft, ITSS will be migrating departmental printers over the next two weeks. This process should be relatively seamless, in that your computer will continue to print to the same printer, but behind the scene, we will no longer be using Novell. In some cases, we do have to make a visit; for example if a computer has not been connected to Active Directory yet. We will have dedicated ITSS staff ready to resolve these issues.

As we migrate each department, we will provide you with more details and specific timelines when the migration will take place. We will do our best to notify departments as far in advance as possible.

Should you encounter printing issues following the migration, please contact the ITSS Helpdesk (helpdesk@upei.ca).

The foodbank was closed for the summer due to our renovation but is now open and getting busy! Please remember it is donation driven by our UPEI community. Popular items include cooking oil, vegetables, peanut butter and jam, as well as treats, such as granola bars, pudding, and fruit cups. Be creative! $10 gift cards are also appreciated.

PEI's Unitarian Fellowship was very generous in June, and Connection Point Church has also donated this month.

I am grateful!
