The Faculty of Science Graduate Studies Committee invites the UPEI community to the presentation and defense of Colin Stetson's MSc thesis entitled "Nannyberry (Viburnum lentago L) extract affects proliferation-linked activities and the expression of apoptosis-linked proteins in human prostate cancer cells in vitro”. Everyone is welcome.
 
The event is Monday, August 27 at 10:00 am in room 204 of the Duffy Science Building. 
The Faculty of Science Graduate Studies Committee invites the UPEI community to the presentation and defense of Adam Proud's PhD thesis entitled "The Development and Applications of a Novel Software Package for the Analysis of Electron Pair Behaviour”. Everyone is welcome.

The Atlantic Veterinary College's Summer Research and Leadership Program invites the UPEI community and the public to attend poster presentations on Monday, August 27th from 12:30 to 3:30 pm in the AVC McCain Foundaition Learning Commons atrium. Our program is designed to introduce our veterinary students to careers in research by incorporating a summer research project with a faculty mentor, along with weekly lectures and a poster presentation.

The students will be available to answer questions regarding their poster and research project.
Everyone is welcome.

The Office of the Vice-President Administration and Finance wishes to inform the University community that the Board of Governors has approved a new Conflict of Interest Policy.  The purpose of this policy is to define conflicts of interest at the University and establish procedures to effectively address and manage them. 

All members of the university community, including faculty and staff, have an obligation to declare any conflicts of interest in accordance with the policy.  Please keep in mind that a conflict of interest can be actual, perceived, or foreseeable; when in doubt, seek guidance from your conflict officer as outlined in the policy.

NSO Leaders will be running around campus on August 31 from 9:00 to 9:30 am collecting change as a head start for their Panthers for Change fundraiser. If you are hoping to donate, please make sure to have change on-hand!

The Robertson Library is hosting an exhibit of small works of mixed-media/collage on the theme of Sailing by Louise Mould. You are invited to the opening of the exhibit at the Robertson Library on Sunday August 26 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm. The exhibit will be on display until September 21, 2018. Parking permit renewal reminders for the 2018-19 academic year have been sent out by email to faculty and staff members who held 2017-18 permits for reserved and restricted Lots B, C, F and G. Please ensure you turn in your completed applications by Friday, August 24, 2018 to ensure renewal.

To purchase a parking permit, please come see us at our the parking window in the Facilities Management office in the Central Utility building daily Monday to Friday, 8:30 am - noon and 1 pm - 3 pm.

Applications for faculty and staff are available online and must include your UPEI ID#, make and model of your vehicle, and licence plate number.

Faculty and staff requesting to pay for their permits via payroll deduction must have their application into the parking office by Friday, August 24, 2018.

Parking Enforcement will begin on September 5, 2018, the first day of classes. Ensure you follow all parking regulations to avoid being ticketed. Parking regulations are available online at http://www.upei.ca/facilities/security/parking.

The Applied Communication, Leadership, and Culture program will host a Bruce Rainnie public speaking workshop on Saturday, 8 September 2018 from 1:00 pm to 3:30 pm. The aim of this workshop is to provide a small group of UPEI employees with an opportunity to improve their public speaking skills. Priority will be given to participants who are interested in improving their ability to communicate effectively through the press, but all interested participants are welcome to apply.

Bruce Rainnie brings a wealth of public communications experience with him to his position as the Applied Communication, Leadership, and Culture Program’s Practitioner in Residence. He is currently the President and CEO of the Nova Scotia Sport Hall of Fame in Halifax. Prior to this position, he was the host of CBC News: Compass, the supper-hour news program for Prince Edward Island. In that role, he helped Compass become the country’s number one rated CBC supper-hour news broadcast. Bruce is known nationally for his work with CBC Sports. Along with being a regular host on Hockey Night in Canada, he broadcast eight Olympic games–including the most recent games in South Korea.

Bruce Rainnie is an engaging speaker and an insightful mentor. His leadership in this program will ensure that participants will come away from the workshop with boosted confidence in their own communication abilities.
