The first-ever National Research and Education Network Summit will be held online via Zoom on December 7, 8, and 9, 2020 from 1 pm to 4 pm (EST) each day.

The theme of the Summit is “Strengthening Connections In Times of Change.” Canada’s research, education, and innovation communities have had quite a year! From moving rapidly to remote education delivery at the outset of the pandemic to focusing on COVID-19 research, and to ensure the security of information across the ecosystem, there is lots to talk about, lots to learn, and lots to celebrate!

The Atlantic Canada Study and Stay - Prince Edward Island Program is seeking Volunteer Mentors.

Across the Island, there are 55 selected international students this year who would benefit from developing professional relationships with a volunteer mentor.

Mentors help our international students better understand workplace culture, improve their soft skills, and develop more connections on PEI. As a mentor, you'll be meeting with your assigned student 4–6 times between January 2021 and July/August 2021. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, all meetings will be conducted online.

It’s a good and rewarding feeling to support someone in our community and make a difference in someone's life. If you enjoy spending time with international students while helping create a more supportive community, we would like to invite you to sign up as a mentor here: https://atlanticcanadastudyandstay.com/atlantic-canada-study-and-staytm-prince-edward-island

Please help us share this information with your network. We appreciate your support. If you have any questions, please contact us at studyandstaypei@upei.ca.

On Wednesday December 2, ITSS will be conducting routine maintenance on the MyUPEI portal and related services from 8 pm to 12 am midnight. During this time there may be intermittent access and performance issues with accessing and using MyUPEI, Self-Service & Colleague.

We encourage Students, Faculty, and Staff that may need documents or links located on myUPEI to plan ahead and bookmark or download the resources they may need during this period.

As a reminder, you can access Moodle directly using https://moodle.upei.ca.

If you have any questions, please contact the ITSS Help Desk at 902-566-0465.

The CBRC and Egale Canada have partnered on researching Access to Justice Study for 2SLGBTQIA+ People in Canada. Egale is currently focused on the experience of sexual minorities (e.g. lesbian women, bisexual people, gay men) in Atlantic Canada. Egale is in the final phase of recruitment, which is ending December 15, 2020.

This study, available in both English and French, seeks to gather information about the legal experiences of lesbian, gay, and bisexual people in Eastern Canada. The data gathered will help inform and change legal policies, practices, and services for LGBTQI2S people in Canada.

A link to the study can be found at https://egale.ca/legal-study along with additional information.

For anyone interested in participating, you can reach out to research@egale.ca for more information, or to arrange an interview.

To be eligible, participants must:

  • Be at least 16 years old
  • Have had a serious legal issue within the last three (3) years
  • Reside in Newfoundland and Labrador, Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia, or New Brunswick

A Virtual Demo and Discussion with Steve Joordens, University of Toronto Scarborough

The University of Prince Edward Island is piloting a new educational technology called peerScholar.  peerScholar was created and researched in the Advanced Learning Technologies Lab of the University of Toronto specifically to provide a formal and structured approach to the development of skills like critical thought, creative thought, two-way communication, collaboration and metacognitive awareness.  In this Introductory webinar Professor Joordens, co-creator of peerScholar and 3M National Teaching Fellow, will show you the tool and will highlight how it can allow you to turn any existing assignment into one that exercises these core skills while promoting deeper learning and better quality work … all without requiring my additional effort on your part.  Come out and see just how cool peerScholar is (yes Steve Joordens wrote that part!).
