Recently hired faculty at the University of Prince Edward Island will be welcomed to the academic community during our New Faculty Orientation on August 23rd and 24th.  We are planning for an in-person gathering on campus from 1:00 to 4:00 each day to welcome and meet our new colleagues. This university-level orientation is meant for all newly hired faculty of all ranks and tracks. This event complements any orientation programming offered by your unit, and you are highly encouraged to engage in both. Our event will feature a large cast of senior administrators, colleagues from a variety of teaching, research, and support units as well as the UPEIFA, our faculty union. In addition to welcoming remarks and a review of key university policies, sessions will include background info and tips to support faculty and student success to help your transition to UPEI be as smooth as possible. You will also hear from fellow faculty who have been in your shoes about building and finding community at UPEI.

Invitations will be sent in early August.  If you are a new academic member of the UPEI community, and you haven’t received an invitation or wish to ensure you receive the invitation, please contact Charlene VanLeeuwen at TLC@upei.ca

Back to school is upon us! Are you thinking about purchasing a new laptop? Before you do, think about getting an SSD to upgrade your current laptop's performance. This upgrade could extend its life by a year or two.

If you really need a new laptop, here are some things to consider:

  • Battery life: Some models claim up to 20 hours.
  • Screen size: What will you be using it for? Will it fit in a bag? The bigger the screen, the easier the keyboard will be to work on.
  • RAM: 8GB is probably the minimum, but it's worth going up to 12GB or 16GB if you can afford it.
  • Touchscreen: This is a personal preference, but it can be very useful.

The deadline for Fall 2021 Tuition Waivers is August 18, 2021.  We encourage you to have tuition waivers submitted as soon as possible to assist in their timely processing. Tuition Waiver forms must be submitted electronically.
