Campus Notices

As part of UPEI's network revitalization project, IT Systems and Services will be simplifying and securing the Wi-Fi experience for the campus community. Beginning August 4, 2021, we will be decommissioning Panthernet and Panthernet Open and moving to our existing “eduroam” Wi-Fi service. If you are not already using eduroam, please visit www.upei.ca/wifi for instructions on how to connect to "eduroam" Wi-Fi. It is important that you do this before August 4, in order to avoid an interruption to your Wi-Fi service.

For more information and assistance, please contact the ITSS service desk at helpdesk@upei.ca or 902-566-0465.

This webinar will discuss some of group work theory and some online practices for group work. This session will be hosted online and a recording will be sent to registrants.

Sedentary behaviour has been shown to impact children's physical and mental health, as well as their academic performance. In collaboration with researchers at UPEI, the Sedentary Behaviour Research Network (SBRN) is developing evidence-based recommendations for school-related sedentary behaviours (e.g. sedentary behaviours done while at school, as well as homework).

SBRN is now requesting feedback on their draft recommendations to ensure that they are relevant and applicable for parents, clinicians, and researchers.

If childhood sedentary behaviour is of interest to you in a personal or professional capacity, please complete the feedback survey here: https://forms.gle/eAmaiAtgbH3ohzsf6 prior to July 25. Please feel free to share this link with others who may be interested in this topic.

Effective July 2021, visitors to the UPEI Health and Wellness Centre will continue to be required to wear a face mask.  We are unable to guarantee physical distancing during your visit; consequently, for the safety of you, other visitors, and our staff we will continue to require you to wear your masks. We recognize this may be an inconvenience for some but appreciate your cooperation.

With the increase in the use of online learning over the past year, discussion forums have become a very popular activity. Now, learners see these online discussion forums being used in many of their classes. And the delivery of those forums is often the same: to get full credit, please write a response to the question and then make sure to comment on at least three other posts. Instead of a deep discussion, what emerges is a whole lot of “I agree with what you said” posts. In this workshop we will look at a method called #Digitalpowerups for elevating your discussion forum towards the kind of activity it is truly meant to be. Facilitated by the E-Learning Office this workshop will be offered online on Thursday, July 29th from 10:00 to 11:00 am.

Inclusive teaching and learning is about more than accepting all learners. It’s about actively removing barriers to learning so that everyone involved has the same opportunities to grow and develop. To create a learning environment that is both safe and welcoming to everyone, you need to intentionally and thoughtfully consider your curriculum, your course design, your teaching practices and your assessment methods. In this introductory workshop, you will be shown areas in which you can begin to thoughtfully and empathetically work collaboratively with your learners to diversify your content and delivery. Hosted by the E-Learning Office, this workshop takes place online Tuesday, August 3rd from 10 to 11 am.

As intuitive as Outlook rules are, some junk mail will always make its way past the filter. While you can simply delete each message, you can identify messages as junk and keep them out of your inbox permanently.

To mark a message as junk, right click the message in the preview pane and locate the Junk option. From there, you can select a variety of options – including Block a Sender, making sure those emails do not continue to clog up your inbox.

All UPEI students are welcome to Join fellow students on Saturday, July 24th, 2021 for an afternoon of volunteering with Pride PEI.

We'll be taking part in "Pride in the Park" at Confederation Landing in Charlottetown - Pride PEI's lively and signature outdoor event.

Volunteering can give students the experience to build their resumes, learn new skills, make new friends, and lend a helping hand to those in need. Join us as we support and celebrate PEI's 2SLGBTQIA+ community (and have a ton of fun in the process)!

Spaces are limited, so students are asked to sign up before 12:00pm on Friday, July 23rd. A follow-up email with further details will be sent out prior to the event.

This event is organized by UPEI's Office of Work Integrated Learning in partnership with PRIDE PEI.
