Minor amendments that are strictly limited to changes in personnel and/or funding can be submitted at any time but require up to a two-week review period. They are normally reviewed by the IBC chair or designate, the BSO or designate, and one other voting member of the IBC. If the amendment is approved, then an approval notification will be sent to the PI. Submissions via this route may be sent for full committee review at the discretion of the IBC chair and the BSO.  

All research compliance applications, including biosafety application forms, must be submitted through the Researcher Portal.

The UPEI Student Union will be participating in the 2022 Pride Parade and invites all students, staff and faculty to join them by meeting at 12 noon, Saturday, July 23, on Terry Fox Drive in the parking lot behind the provincial government buildings. Look for the Panther Patrol van! The parade begins at 12:30 pm and ends approximately at 1:00 pm.

All you need to do to join the UPEI parade team is to be yourself and be ready to wave and cheer. If you like, you can purchase a UPEI Pride t-shirt from the bookstore or you can make your own!

Wear a UPEI shirt or hat and add a little Pride colour!

Immediately after the parade, join us for games on the field in Victoria Park. For a full schedule of the week's events, check out PEI Pride Festival 2022.

The Robertson Library invites members of the campus community – students, faculty, and staff – to attend a virtual presentation by Emily Dafoe, candidate for the permanent-track position of Instructional Services Librarian (position posting), on Tuesday, July 19.

The PEI Pride Festival Week, July 16–24, 2022, celebrates the diversity of gender identity, sexual orientation, and gender expression. This year’s festival includes a number of events across the Island, including the Pride Parade on Saturday, July 23, winding through the streets of downtown Charlottetown. View the full schedule and parade route map from Pride PEI.

The newer “Progress” Pride flag is a combination of the traditional Pride flag with a redesign incorporating elements to bring focus on inclusion and progress within the community.

Designed by Daniel Quasar, a Portland, Oregon-based graphic designer who identifies as queer and non-binary, it includes black and brown stripes to represent Black, Indigenous, and people of colour; and light blue, pink, and white stripes to represent the transgender community, and those living with HIV/AIDS (and those no longer living).

Check out our current book display in the foyer of the Library, showcasing 2SLGBTQIA+ authors and books on the history of gay rights and related civil rights movements. Books in the display are available for checkout.

The UPEI English Language Centre is urgently looking for individuals and families to host eight incoming Japanese female high school students. The students are at UPEI from July 24 to August 6. Students need to have their own bedroom, access to food for three meals a day, and transportation to campus if not on a bus route.  Hosts receive $250/week for each student hosted. Overview: The New Managers Certificate program is designed for those who are new to the manager/supervisor role or aspire to be a manager/supervisor. In this certificate program, the following topics will be explored in-depth: personal leadership styles, communication, strategic thinking, change management, performance management, creating effective teams, managing conflict, and cultural awareness in the workplace. After the completion of this certificate, participants will have the tools, techniques, and confidence to provide effective leadership within the workplace.

This program is designed for people who have just become a manager or supervisor, or are interested in becoming a manager and/or a supervisor, within either the public and private sector.

The School of Climate Change and Adaptation is interviewing three candidates for two 10-month term positions. Dr. Randal Arsenault, July 12, 2022

Dr. Arsenault teaches at the University of Calgary and holds a PhD from the Centre for African Ecology and a master of natural resources management degree. His research is focused on promoting global citizenship in Canadian post-secondary students, and addressing UN Sustainable Development Goals on climate change, poverty, and managing terrestrial and marine ecosystems.

Dr. Alaba Boluwade, July 14, 2022

Dr. Boluwade graduated as the highest-ranking student in his engineering class and later obtained a master’s in soil and water conservation engineering. He also holds a joint master’s degree in geospatial technologies from the Institute of Geoinformatics, University of Muenster, Germany; the University of Juame I, Spain; and the Instituto Superior de Estatística e Gestão de Informação, Universidade Nova de Lisboa, Portugal, as well as a Ph.D. in bioresource engineering from McGill University in Montreal, Canada. He is a member of the Professional Engineers Ontario (P.Eng) and a Chartered Engineer (CPEng) with Engineer Australia (specializations in civil engineering, environmental engineering, leadership, and management). Previously, he was an assistant professor at the Sultan Qaboos University, Muscat, Oman. Dr. Boluwade has more than 20 years of professional experience in North America, Africa, the Middle East, and Europe. To polish his educational leadership skills, he obtained a leadership principal certificate from Harvard Business School in 2021. Dr. Boluwade is currently completing an MBA (expected July 2022) from the Lazaridis School of Business and Economics, Wilfrid Laurier University, Waterloo, Canada.

Dr. Pelin Kinay, July 15, 2022 

Dr. Kinay’s primary research interests are climate change and associated impacts on human health with an adaptation focus. She is interested in the nature of climates, whether local, regional, or global, as well as the natural and human-caused variables that influence climate change and human health. Dr. Kinay has a solid background in looking into the mechanisms that lead to efficient climate adaptation. While her interest in vulnerable populations and climate change and health consequences is developing, she is integrating her research into nature-based solutions and climate change adaptation by looking into different regions, while considering the health impacts of climate extremes with an interdisciplinary approach. She is currently planning to conduct research on Indigenous peoples' perspectives on climate change, adaptation strategies, and potential health effects related to climate change in Atlantic Canada. She is particularly interested in Indigenous knowledge regarding methods of coping with and adapting to climate change. According to Dr. Kinay, traditional knowledge and practices are valued more and more and should be properly considered in climate change science and other scientific research. Additionally, with a focus on cardiovascular biomarkers, Dr. Kinay is pursuing other research on the health effects of exposure to green space and climate change. Her various interdisciplinary projects aim to examine various demographic groups in various regions, considering the implications of mental and physical health and the linkages between urbanization and climate change.
