Accommodations
Conference Accommodation and Location
Complimentary 3–4 nights at the Performing Arts Centre and Residence, UPEI
Tuesday, June 25 to Saturday, June 29 depending on your departure location and arrival date and time.
Check-in Information and Your Room Key
Ask your taxi driver to drop you off at the entrance door of UPEI residence Andrew Hall; the Andrew Hall building is located just next to the Performing Arts Centre and Residence building (our conference hotel). Go in and see the front-desk receptionist (a UPEI student) to check-in and receive your apt unit key. This front-desk reception is open 24 hours and 7 days week. In other words, even if you arrive very late on Tuesday June 24/25 midnight at 1:00 am, you will be OK with checking-in there.
We have a special group accommodation contract to cover your accommodation there from Monday June 24 mid-night to Sunday June 30 morning, depending on your arrival and departure date and time. You are advised to check out on Saturday, June 29 (check-out time: 12:00 noon or 1:00 pm) unless you must stay there until Sunday, June 30 with pre-arrangement and approval.
If you stay there longer, you are required to pay for your additional days unless your Saturday, June 29 night was pre-arranged and approved by me and the conference organizing team:
- 1-bedroom apartment (suite) (with two single beds or a king bed) - CA$120 + taxes (about 18%) per night
- 2-bedroom apartment suite (1 double bed in each room or 2 single beds in each room) - CA$140 + taxes (about 18%)
(Note: Highly discounted rate for Conference - these kinds of suites will cost you $350–500 per night at regular hotels or private rental condos in PEI.)
Performing Arts Centre and Residence
Located at the north-east corner of University Ave. and Belvedere Ave. There is a big shopping mall near to this building, where you will see a large grocery store and a good number of restaurants and retail stores.
UPEI On-campus Facilities
One convenient thing with staying at this campus summer hotel: During your stay you will be eligible to use university sports facilities such as the Chi-Wan Young Sports Centre and Bell Aliant Centre (aquatics swimming pool) with admission fees.
Special Group Reservation
Eleven (11) apartment suites are reserved for all participants at UPEI’s Performing Arts Centre and Residence. This brand new place was built in 2022 for Canada Winter Games 2023. It is a good one like a new international guest house at a larger university campus. the conference organizer (Edward Chung) had already communicated with all participants regarding the type and duration of accommodation.
Nine 2-bedroom apartments are reserved: three (3) units for our first keynote speaker and two paper presenters who come with their spouses, and six (6) units for twelve presenters who kindly agreed to share each unit with a roommate. Two 1-bedroom units are also reserved for two paper presenters who need a single, non-shared unit.
Room Information
All rooms are new, clean, and as nice as large rooms or suites at decent local hotels in Charlottetown. Each unit is either a “1-bedroom apartment” or a “2-bedroom apt” unit—which is similar to the furnished studio or 2-bedroom condo apartment—and includes basic furniture, a living room, a small kitchen (including a table and chairs, a refrigerator, a microwave, cooking things, dishes, spoons, forks, etc.), and a full washroom. The 1-bedroom unit has two single beds or a king bed, whereas the 2-bedroom (very spacious) unit has one double beds in each bedroom or two single beds in each room.
Towels and Other Things
Each unit provides three types of towels (face, regular, and shower…), soap, and toilet paper in the washroom, but you have to bring your own shampoo and conditioner. Regarding towels and bed linens (bed sheets and pillow covers), you are welcome to get new ones by yourself every day; there are available on the first floor. If you need a hair dryer, bring it with you.
