Vice-President Academic Presentation by Dr. MacDonald

Over the past several months, the search committee for the Vice-President Academic has received and considered expressions of interest and supporting documents from potential candidates for the position. A number of outstanding candidates proceeded to the interview process. As a result, two candidates have been selected by the committee to deliver public presentations to campus. Both presentations will be held in Lecture Theatre A of the Atlantic Veterinary College. Each 20-minute presentation will be followed by an opportunity for questions from the audience. Dr. Alexander (Sandy) MacDonald will present on Monday, May 26, 2:30 to 3:45 am. The session will be moderated by Dr. Gordon MacDonald.

LMMI Conference: L.M. Montgomery and War

UPEI’s Lucy Maud Montgomery Institute (LMMI)’s 11th biennial conference—“L.M. Montgomery and War”—will take place June 25–29 in Charlottetown. The conference will include open discussions on war, conflict, the Canadian Home Front, gender roles, and more. Keynote speakers include distinguished historian Jonathan Vance; Montgomery scholar, LMMI founder, and former UPEI President, Elizabeth “Betsy” Epperly; and Canada Research Chair Irene Gammel. In addition to the full conference program, there will also be a public exhibition at the Confederation Centre of the Arts Public Library entitled “The Canadian Home Front: L.M. Montgomery’s Reflections on The First World War,” curated by Dr. Laura Robinson of the Royal Military College. “Maud of Leaskdale,” a fantastic one-woman play will also take place at the Carrefour Theatre in Charlottetown during the conference, and much more!

Stewart McKelvey Panther Classic Golf Tournament

UPEI Athletics and Recreation is pleased to announce this year’s Stewart McKelvey Panther Classic Golf Tournament is returning to PEI’s beautiful Green Gables Golf Course on July 25. The annual event generates support for student-athletes at UPEI. The tournament begins at 8:30 am with a shotgun start. Registration fee is $650/team of four paid at once; or $170 per golfer, and includes green fee, power carts, gift, and barbeque afterwards. Entry deadline is July 4. Astronomy Public Viewing

Come see some of the marvels of the night sky through our 8-inch telescope at the UPEI observatory. Potential viewing objects include the Moon, planets, nebulae, and galaxies. Volunteers from the Charlottetown Centre of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada (RASC) and the UPEI Physics Department will be on hand to show you the sights and answer your astronomical questions. Our next viewing is scheduled from 9:45 to 11:00 pm on Saturday, June 14. Guests are asked to come to Memorial Hall Room 417. This event is weather dependent. In the event of cloudy skies requiring a cancellation, the viewing may be shifted to Sunday, June 15 at the same time (if weather permits). This event is free of charge and open to all members of the public. It is necessary to climb the stairs from the 4th floor up to the observatory, but an elevator can be taken up to the 4th floor.

Public Presentation by Dr. Carol Ann McDevitt

Join the campus community for a public presentation by Dr. Carol Ann McDevitt, from MIT, as a candidate for tenure track position in Engineering. Dr. McDevitt's presentation is entitled: "A Tale of Two Toy Cars-Effect of the product development approach on the final product–two winning designs from student teams." The presentation will take place on Thursday, June 5 at 10:30 am in Don and Marion McDougall Hall, room 246.

Join the campus community for a public presentation by Dr. Dale Roach, from the University of New Brunswick, as a candidate for tenure track position in Engineering. Dr. Roach's presentation is entitled: "From Gadgets to Policy: Finding Sustainable Solutions to Our Problems."
