UPEI Theatre Society All-Call
Time to kick things off with a bang! Welcome to the Theatre Society's annual general meeting - the ALL-CALL! We will be holding TWO separate meetings throughout the day! You don't have to attend both unless really want to! This is a great chance to meet fellow theatre-lovers on campus, and learn about the future of the Theatre Society for the 2013-14 year!
SEPTEMBER 5th - 1pm and 7pm!
THE AFTERNOON ALL-CALL ~ 1pm, English Lounge, Main Building (Room 336) This is just a casual drop-in meeting going until about 2:15pm. It'll be a great way to get the inside scoop of what's happening this year on campus!
THE EVENING ALL-CALL ~ 7pm, Faculty Lounge, Main Building. This is a fun meet and greet of new and returning Theatre Society members!
A lot of exciting things will be happening this year with the Theatre Society, so if you're interesting in Theatre (or even just campus activities) I really hope you can make it!

Winter's Tales Author Reading Series
UPEI’s Winter’s Tales Authors’ Reading Series kicks off the 2013 season with the talented Susan Glickman and Julie Bruck, who will read on Thursday, September 26, at 7:30 pm in the Faculty Lounge, UPEI Main Building. Bruck won the 2012 Governor General’s Award for poetry, and Glickman is a talented poet, fiction writer, and young adult novelist.
Their reading is sponsored by the UPEI English Department with funding from the Canada Council for the Arts and League of Canadian Poets. A reception and book signing will follow. Admission is free.
2013 Animal Welfare in Practice Conference at AVC
The Sir James Dunn Animal Welfare Centre's ninth annual Animal Welfare in Practice conference will take place on September 13 and 14 at UPEI. This year, the conference explores common behaviour issues in dogs and cats, their impact on the welfare of pets, and the importance of positive interactions in the prevention and management of behaviour problems.
On Friday, September 13, at 7:00 p.m., Dr. Barbara Sherman, MS, PhD, DVM, will give a free public lecture,“Help! My dog just tore down my blinds…and other behaviour issues in dogs and cats,” in Room 242 of Don and Marion McDougall Hall at UPEI (PLEASE NOTE CHANGE OF VENUE). Dr. Sherman is Clinical Professor, Veterinary Behavior, College of Veterinary Medicine, North Carolina State University, and a diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Behaviorists and the American College of Animal Welfare.
The program on Saturday, September 14, will take place at the Atlantic Veterinary College and will include workshops of interest to veterinarians, veterinary and animal science students, animal health technicians, trainers, and humane society personnel. Topics will include diagnosis and treatment of behaviour problems in dogs and cats, pharmacology of drugs that modify animal behaviour, an interactive session about specific behaviour problems, and a workshop in the afternoon on positive training approaches for behaviour challenges. Registration fees apply for the workshops on Saturday.

A Cry for Peace - pray for peace in Syria
UPEI Chaplaincy Centre is hosting "A Cry for Peace - pray for peace in Syria" Saturday September 7, 2013 at 7:00 pm.
In Pope Francis' words, "We want to be men and women of peace, and we want in our society, torn apart by divisions and conflict, that peace break out! ... peace is a good which overcomes every barrier, because it belongs all of humanity! "
Come and gather around our UPEI Peace Pole - let peace prevail on earth.
Recital Series Kickoff
The season opens on Sunday, September 8th at 7:30pm in the Dr. Steel Recital Hall with Duo :nota bene: featuring violinist Eva Steinschaden and pianist Alexander Vavtar. The two musicians, both graduates of the Mozarteum University, have concentrated primarily on music of the Viennese Classical school.
Since its inception in 1996 the Duo :nota bene: has given over 400 concerts in more than 35 countries. In September 2013, the duo will make its first concert tour in Canada, performing in Toronto, Antigonish, St. John’s and Charlottetown. The duo’s programme at UPEI will feature works by Mozart, Schubert, Kreisler and Nussbichler. The concert tour is made possible with the support of the Austrian Cultural Forum Ottawa.
Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students and seniors and can be purchased at the Dr. Steel Recital Hall the night of the performance.
