The announcement of the UNESCO Chair in Island Studies and Sustainability

Please join us Friday for an announcement and celebration of the new UNESCO Chair in Island Studies and Sustainability at UPEI. The chair will work to establish and expand academic and research programmes on Small Island Developing States (SIDS) and Sub-National Island Jurisdictions (SNIJs). It will operate from the premise that SIDS and SNIJs are innovative, entrepreneurial, and connected, not vulnerable, lacking and isolated. The chair is one of 700 UNESCO chairs around the world and is the first in Atlantic Canada. Staff, Faculty and All Years Mixer

UPEI and the Department of Development and Alumni Engagement are hosting the Staff, Faculty and All Years Mixer on August 5 as part of Reunion Weekend celebrations. Faculty, staff, and UPEI alumni are invited to the new School of Sustainable Design Engineering at 3:00 on Friday, August 5. It's a great opportunity to kick off the weekend, and mix and mingle with a cross section of our campus community, while enjoying some refreshments, and entertainment. Everyone is welcome!

AVC Class of 1991 Reunion

The AVC Class of 1991 will celebrate 25 years at a reunion taking place from Friday, August 5, to Saturday, August 6. On Friday, the Classes of 1991 and 2006 will hold a combined reception at AVC at 5:30 pm followed by a tour of the College at 6 pm, led by Dean Greg Keefe. A barbecue will follow at 7 pm. On Saturday, the Class of 1991 will gather for dinner at Peakes Quay at 7 pm. The AVC Class of 1991’s reunion is being organized by Dr. David Condon.

AVC Class of 2006 Reunion

The AVC Class of 2006 will hold its ten-year reunion from Friday, August 5, to Sunday, August 7. On Friday afternoon, the Classes of 2006 and 1991 will hold a combined reception at AVC at 5:30 pm followed by a tour of the College at 6 pm, led by Dean Greg Keefe. A barbecue will follow at 7 pm. On Saturday, the Class of 2006 will meet at New Glasgow Lobster Supper at 6 pm. On Sunday, the Class will wrap up its reunion weekend with a farewell brunch at 12 noon at the Top of the Park, Red Shore Race Track and Casino, Charlottetown. The reunion is being organized by Dr. Mellissa Yuen.

Molecular & Macromolecular Sciences Speaker - Dr. Avena Ross

Dr. Avena Ross, Department of Chemistry,  Queen's University will present a seminar on Thursday, August 11, 2016 at 10:00 am. The presentation is entitled "Connecting Genes to Molecules - Discovery and Biosynthesis of Natural Products in Pseudoalteromonas". The seminar will be held in the Duffy Research Centre, Lecture Theatre, Room 212. All are Welcome!

Time to Write

Time to Write faculty writers retreat, November 9-13 If you have difficulty carving out uninterrupted time for writing, if you struggle with motivating yourself to write, or if you would simply like the supportive collaboration of a writing retreat, consider Time to Write, UPEI's faculty writers retreat. When: Wednesday, November 9 to Sunday, November 13 Where: TBD Cost to participants: $200, which includes four nights accommodation, meals and snacks  Is Time to Write for You? Your project must be at a stage where sustained writing time makes sense. Your research and/or data collection and analysis must be completed to the point that you are ready to write. You must also be prepared to commit to the full program: a total of three and a half days focused on writing. The retreat is open to tenured and tenure stream University of Prince Edward Island faculty in any Department/Faculty/School. How to Register Email Research Communications Officer Dave Atkinson, datkinson@upei.ca, with a brief summary of the project you plan to work and your writing goals for the retreat. There is room for six participants at Time to Write.
