UPEI physics student wins award at Canadian Association of Physicists Congress

Nishel Alexander, a fourth-year honours student in physics at UPEI, won second place in the poster competition in the association’s Division of Physics in Medicine and Biology at the 2023 Canadian Association of Physicists (CAP) Congress held at the University of New Brunswick in June. His poster presentation was titled “Construction of optical tools for investigating active matter.”

Dr. Edward MacDonald wins CCHA’s Paul Bator Memorial Award

Dr. Edward MacDonald, professor of history at UPEI, recently won the Canadian Catholic Historical Association’s (CCHA) 2023 Paul Bator Memorial Prize for the best article published over the past four years in the association’s journal, Historical Studies. His winning article, titled “A Song for Edward Whelan: Commemoration, Catholicism and Classical Liberalism in the Afterlife of a Tragic Hero,” was published in the journal’s 87th volume in 2021. 

UPEI student planning TEDx event on PEI: Call for ideas!

Daniel Cousins, a third-year UPEI student in the Applied Communication, Leadership, and Culture program, is planning PEI’s first TEDx event, tentatively set for October 13, 2023, and is looking for ideas from faculty, students, and alumni. 

Cousins, who has also studied photography and digital imaging, marketing and advertising, and project management at Holland College, has been trying to bring a TED event to PEI since 2015.   

AVC vet campers ready to learn about veterinary medicine!

The Atlantic Veterinary College (AVC) at UPEI is geared up to host the wildly popular Dr. Tim Ogilvie AVC Vet Camp, introducing junior and senior high school students to the exciting world of veterinary medicine. The program, which includes four one-week camps, begins July 10. 

For the first time, there are two camp coordinators leading the pack of campers—third-year AVC student Lindsay Gallant and second-year student Julia Skinner.
