Dr. John VanLeeuwen, interim dean of AVC, congratulates Jennifer Ready-MacDonald on her retirement after 36 years of service.

The Atlantic Veterinary College’s (AVC) annual Ice Cream Social took place on June 23, honouring staff who demonstrated excellence in their work this past year and bidding a fond farewell to retiring faculty and staff.

Dr. John VanLeeuwen, Interim Dean, presented the Dean's Awards of Excellence to four outstanding staff members who were nominated by their colleagues and peers in recognition of their remarkable contributions to AVC. Congratulations to Suzette Acorn (nominated by Dr. Tammy Muirhead and Dr. Sandra McConkey), Karen Gillis (nominated by Dr. Anne Marie Carey), Melita MacDougall (nominated by Dr. John VanLeeuwen), and Nicole Murphy (nominated by Dr. Nina Germitsch).

“The Dean’s Awards of Excellence recognize individuals who have made extraordinary contributions in teaching and research support, service activities, and the administrative functioning of AVC,” said Dr. VanLeeuwen. “This year we had seven strong nominations, all of which were worthy of receiving this recognition.”

Retiring this year are Jennifer Ready-MacDonald, Materials Management Unit, after 36 years; Dr. Andy Tasker, Department of Biomedical Sciences, who served for 36 years as a faculty member; and Jenny Yu, Department of Health Management, who is leaving AVC after 12 years of service.

The ice cream treats served as a sweet accompaniment to the awards and special remarks. Dr. VanLeeuwen expressed his gratitude to the entire team, recognizing their dedication during a year filled with challenges and triumphs.
