Campus Notices
We are now open year round Monday to Friday 6 am to
9 pm, and Saturday and Sunday 8 am to 9 pm.
Hope to see you soon!
Like humans, pets can be affected by a variety of cancers. Many types of cancer in animals can be treated, and some can be cured.
Dr. Pierre Amsellem, a small animal surgeon at the Atlantic Veterinary College (AVC), will discuss pets and cancer during a community workshop on Wednesday, May 29, from 7-8:30 pm in Lecture Theatre A. Dr. Amsellem is a diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons (ACVS) and an ACVS Founding Fellow in surgical oncology.
During the workshop, Dr. Amsellem will discuss the causes of cancer in pets, prevention and detection of cancer, and new diagnostic and treatment options. He will also talk about the goals of treatment and quality of life issues affecting pets with cancer.
Everyone is welcome. Admission is free, and refreshments will be served.
This workshop is part of the 2013 AVC Community Workshop Series, presented by AVC Friends and Family, the college’s community-based volunteer organization. For information, please contact (902) 566-0589 or avc.upei.ca.
All UPEI employees and students are welcome to attend FREE yoga classes
every Wednesday from 12:00-12:45 pm at the UPEI Chaplaincy Centre.
When the weather is nicer, we'll move the class outdoors in the quadrangle
area.
Please bring your own towel and/or mat, and don't forget to bring
some water to hydrate. Fitness instructor Anna Lacroix will help you relax and
focus on your inner strengths.
The program is provided to UPEI employees and students through a partnership
with UPEI Wellness and the Chaplaincy Centre, and will take place for the whole summer.
For more information, please contact Angela Marchbank, Fitness & Wellness coordinator
at amarchbank@upei.ca.

VP Finance: Jessica Willis
VP External: Valerie Campbell
Business Representative: Krystal Mayne
Education Representative: Alaina Roach
AVC Representative: Sarah McConnachie
No one is running for the other positions. However, this is not to say that I will not accept other nominations. If I receive a nomination for a currently vacant position between now and this Friday, May 31 at 12 pm, the name will be entered into the running for election.
Here is a list of the currently uncontested positions:
• Vice President Internal

As of now until next Sunday evening (June 2, 8 pm), the campaigning period is open, so I would encourage the candidates to talk to fellow grad students about the GSA, the position they are running for, and why they should vote for them.
Voting will take place through your UPEI campus login on June 3 and 4.
From May 29-June 7, the Registrar's Office will be holding first-year
registration for all students beginning at UPEI in September 2013. This
registration will take place in two separate sessions--9:00 am and 1:00
pm–-daily in the language lab of the Robertson Library. There will also be a
parents' lounge in the current periodicals study area on the library’s
second floor.
Staff and faculty are encouraged to drop in to introduce themselves and
welcome our 2013-14 students.

New Student Orientation, or NSO as it has existed at the University of Prince
Edward Island will undergo some exciting changes this year. Beginning in the
current year, NSO will begin under the new title of Orientation Week (O-Week)
and be coordinated within the UPEI Student Union in collaboration with the
UPEISU executive team and the V-P Academic Christian Lacroix.
A week of events targeted at all incoming first-year students, Orientation Week
2013 will occur August 31 to September 5.
Maintaining its chemical- and alcohol-free protocols, the week will be composed of both academic and social
events. With the overall goals of orienting new students so they are better able
to succeed at UPEI, make connections with one another, the rest of campus,
and the surrounding community, Orientation Week plays an key role in a
student’s experience at UPEI. Highlights from Orientation Week 2012 included:
NSO Welcome Day
$30,000 raised for Shinerama; Students Fighting Cystic Fibrosis
NSO picnic on the residence fields
Pancake breakfast at the Chaplaincy Centre
Campus wide scavenger hunt
Orientation Week is made possible with the help of nearly a hundred student
volunteers which have been chosen and notified of their roles within the 2013
program. However, staff and faculty also play an important role in making
Orientation Week a great success. If you have any questions, ideas, or would
like to be involved in this year’s O-Week please contact the 2013 Coordinator.
