The deadline for Animal Care Protocol Submissions—new, renewal, or amendments is Friday, June 7 for the June meeting. Ensure you always download the current forms from http://research.upei.ca/animal_care and use Adobe Reader to complete forms. Only current forms will be accepted. Both the signed hard copy and electronic protocol submission must be submitted by the deadline date. ∙ Submit one copy of original protocol with signature to AVC - Annex, Biomedical Sciences Dept., Rm 2302. ∙ Submit an electronic copy to animalcare@upei.ca Those protocols received after the deadline will be reviewed the following month. Training is required to carry out these responsibilities: By ground: A person who handles (see definition below), offers for transport, or transports dangerous goods must; (a) be adequately trained and hold a training certificate; or (b) perform those activities in the presence and under the direct supervision of a person who is adequately trained and who holds a training certificate in accordance with the regs. Handling - is defined as: loading, unloading, or packing dangerous goods for the purposes of, in the course of, or following transportation. Note: it has been clarified that you do not need to have training to unpack a dangerous good that has already been received by Shipping & Receiving. WHMIS training covers this aspect. By air:(IATA regulations): No person may offer or accept dangerous goods for air transport unless those goods are properly classified, documented, certified, packaged, marked, labeled, and in the condition for shipment required by the IATA regulations. Training is required to carry out these responsibilities. The following session are being held from 9:00am–4:30pm at UPEI: IATA Air Infectious and Biological Goods Training—May 22 IATA Air Regular Refresher Training—May 23 TDG Ground Refresher Training—May 24 If you do require any of these fields of training or have questions about your potential TDG training, please contact Rylie Cole (rcole@upei.ca).

We are experiencing a problem with the voice-mail light activation on some of the telephones on campus. Aliant is aware of this and is in the process of correcting it. If you are having a problem with your voice-mail light on your phone, and have not reported it to Procurement Services, please contact me (Peggy) or Roger Cook (0315). The Department of Applied Human Sciences will welcome a new chair on June 1. Dr. Jennifer Taylor will take the torch from outgoing chair Dr. Kathy Gottschall-Pass who has served with dedication since June 1, 2007. Please update your lists and phone books. There will be a UPEI biosafety training session: Tuesday, June 4 1:00 to 4:00 pm The McCain Foundation Learning Commons (Room 286A), AVC Topics to be covered include biosecurity plan training as well as basic biosafety principles and how they are applied at the University of Prince Edward Island. Please note: only those who attended the training sessions in December 2012 or February 2013 are currently considered to be “up to date” in their training requirements.
