At the next Research on Tap, join us for a discussion about science versus fear. Many companies bank on the popularity of “all things natural” by advertising their products as being chemical free. Dr. Brian Wagner, professor of chemistry at UPEI, will lead a discussion entitled “The myth of the chemical-free beer.” The event begins at 7 pm, Tuesday, March 4 at The Pourhouse, above The Old Triangle Irish Alehouse in Charlottetown. The UPEI Climate Research Lab is hosting a 1 day symposium on Tuesday, March 11 entitled "Climate Change and Aquaculture: A science symposium to communicate current research and science activities to the Atlantic Region’s aquaculture industry." The event will be held in the Lecture Theatre, Main Floor, Regis and Joan Duffy Research Centre, from 9:00 am-3:00 pm. Lunch will be provided to registered participants in the adjacent meeting room. In recognition of the outstanding performance of our faculty and staff and their dedication to students and community, a number of annual awards have been created to acknowledge their efforts and achievements, and to celebrate their contributions to our success as an institution. Up to 10 Presidential Awards of Merit for UPEI Faculty and Librarians and four Presidential Awards of Merit for UPEI Staff will be awarded in 2014 and presented during a Celebration of Colleagues to be held on Wednesday, May 7, 2014 from 2-4 pm in McMillan Hall, W.A.Murphy Student Centre. Ryan Johnston, Director of Human Resources will lead the process and chair the committees to select award recipients. Nominations for both faculty and staff awards close on March 28, 2014. On Thursday, March 13 the UPEI Executive MBA program will be hosting special guest speaker, Dawn Desjardins, Assistant Chief Economist with RBC, from 10:00-11:00 am in Andrew Hall, Room 142. Dawn Desjardins joined the RBC Economics team in January 2006 as a senior economist. She is responsible for the macroeconomic and interest rate forecasts for Canada and the U.S. Previously, Dawn worked as a reporter for Bloomberg Financial News in Toronto covering the Canadian bond and currency markets, and was the Canadian bond market strategist for a major U.S. bank for ten years.
