The maintenance request system, “SchoolDude,” has updated their security permissions to require both an email address and password. Faculty & staff requiring maintenance are able to continue using their existing UPEI email by updating their account information via https://login.myschoolbuilding.com/msb. Existing requesters may input their UPEI email and use the “Forgot Password?”  link to send a prompt to email. Follow the link in this email to create a new password. Remember to record the password so you have it for future use.

The deadline for Animal Care Protocol Submissions -- new, renewal, or amendment -- is Friday, August 5 for the August meeting.

Ensure you always…

·        Download the current forms from http://www.upei.ca/research/research-services/research-certifications/animal-care
·        Use the most current Adobe Reader to complete forms and only current forms will be accepted.

Both the signed hard copy and electronic protocol submission must be submitted by the deadline date.

·        Submit one copy of original protocol with signature to AVC - North Annex, Biomedical Sciences Dept., Rm 2302
·        Submit an electronic copy to animalcare@upei.ca

The Healthy Campus Committee will host an Art After Dark event on Thursday, August 11 at 4:15 pm at MacMillian Hall, W.A. Murphy Student Centre. After 20 years at AVC, Dr. Tarek Saleh and Monique Saleh are leaving AVC. Tarek has accepted a new position as Chair of the Department of Biomedical Sciences at the Ontario Veterinary College.

Please join the Department of Biomedical Sciences on Wednesday, July 20th at 10:00 am in the AVC Learning Commons to wish Tarek, Monique, and their family well as they prepare for the next chapter.

If you have a fun story or recollection of their time with us, we hope you will share it with the group.

To support Project Beacon and to extend our capability to provision end users, ITSS is migrating from Novell Directory Services (NDS) to Microsoft Active Directory Services (AD). In order to do this, ITSS will need to visit your location and update software and configurations on your computer. We will need you to be available at this time to enter passwords to complete this process. We are estimating this process will take approximately 30-60 minutes to complete on each computer. 
 
If you have not meet with a staff member from ITSS to do the changeover, please email Adam Arsenault at ajarsenault@upei.ca  to setup an appointment.

The UPEI Executive MBA Program will be hosting a guest speaker event on Thursday, July 21 from 4:30 to 6:30 pm in Schurman Market Square, Don and Marion McDougall Hall.  Special guest speaker is Janice Revell.

Janice Revell is an award-winning journalist, communications consultant and website co-founder. For more than 15 years, Revell was a writer and contributing columnist at Time Inc., specializing in investing and personal finance topics for Fortune and Money magazines and online at CNNMoney. For her work at Fortune, she won the Business Journalist of the Year Award (2005), organized by the World Leadership Forum, for best story in the personal finance category. Her "Wealth Adviser" column, which appeared regularly in the print edition of Fortune magazine, covered a wide range of investing and retirement topics. She has a unique educational background, having both an MBA and a master’s degree in journalism. In her capacity as a communications consultant, Revell specializes in helping clients (including McKinsey & Company, State Street and Prudential Financial) transform complex research into intellectually stimulating, yet easy-to-understand publications. Revell is also the co-founder of the critically acclaimed food reference website StillTasty.com, which has been featured in such publications as Consumer Reports, Good Housekeeping, and The New York Times and was selected as one of the Top 100 Websites of 2009 by PC Magazine.

Ethics protocols that involve ‘more than minimal risk’ must be reviewed by the full UPEI Research Ethics Board. The next deadline for submitting these protocols is Friday August 5 2016. They will be reviewed at the August meeting. Protocols involving ‘more than minimal risk’ that are received after August 5 will be reviewed at the September meeting. 

Other ethics protocol submissions, including new applications that do not involve ‘more than minimal risk’, renewals, and amendments may be submitted at any time. They will be sent for delegated review as soon as all necessary forms are received.

Seniors College is a non-profit organization affiliated with the University of Prince Edward Island and Skills Development and Learning. It offers non-credit courses for seniors so they can continue the joy of learning without the usual pressure of exams or papers.
 
Seniors College is hoping to re-offer the very successful ‘Sharing Our Research’ program  in which UPEI researchers share their area of expertise with our members. It is seeking UPEI professors & researchers who are willing and able to give one Friday morning session during the months of January and February 2017. Each class would be one to one and a half hours long, with a presentation, time for questions and discussion. 
 
Researchers interested in participating are asked to contact Barb Mullaly at mullaly@upei.ca.

The Robertson Library will be creating a single service desk over the Summer months. As a result of this renovation, it is necessary to temporarily close Samuel's cafe to allow time for the relocation to "The PIT" in the Robertson Library. Therefore, starting Wednesday, July 13/16 until Wednesday, July 20/16 Samuel's Cafe will be closed.

During this temporary closure, please feel free to visit the AVC cafeteria.

In order to take advantage of the latest enhancements and updates to our MyUPEI and Colleague systems, we will be scheduling routine maintenance windows throughout the year.  We will do our best to schedule this activity during times that will minimize the impact to the UPEI campus.

The next scheduled maintenance window will occur this Wednesday evening, July 13, from 7:30 pm to 11:30 pm.

As you may be aware, Canada Post and the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (“CUPW”) have been in contracts negotiations since late 2015 to reach a new agreement for about 50,000 workers. CUPW members are expected to have a strike vote sometime this month. If an agreement is not reached, the union estimates a strike or lockout date could come in early July.

In the event of a strike, please be advised of the following:

-UPEI Shipping/Receiving and Mail Services (“SRMS”) will continue to operate.

-Internal mail services will be unaffected.

-Mail destined for the Canada Post will continue to be picked up at offices around campus and taken to SRMS where it will then be stamped and ready for immediate delivery to Canada Post at the conclusion of the labour disruption.

-Should the delivery or your outgoing mail be time sensitive, you should consider using a courier service.

-At the faculty/department’s request, SRMS can prepare and send items normally shipped in the regular mail system via courier. Please note that all courier charges will be recovered from the department initiating the shipment.

-Departments are free to initiate their own deliveries with the courier of their choice.

-Although significant developments and updates regarding a potential disruption will be communicated by UPEI Marketing and Communications, it is the responsibility of each faculty/ department to ensure and monitor normal delivery of their mail item and make decisions as to whether to use a courier service or Canada Post.

On October 1, the UPEI Rainbow Alliance will be holding a craft fair in McMillan Hall to help raise money to send Island students and their chaperones to the International GSA Conference in Windsor, Ontario in the Spring of 2017. 

We will be renting tables for $20 each + item donation to our raffle. We welcome artisans, crafters, direct sales reps (limited amount of tables), etc.  Anyone selling food products must have a licensed kitchen and be able to provide their license.

The Rainbow Alliance will also be accepting donations of items we can raffle off, as well as monetary donations (cheques made payable to the UPEI Rainbow Alliance) if you would like to directly support sending students to the conference (note: most of the students are high school students) 

We are also selling rainbow silicone wrist bands for $2 each, which say UPEI on one side, and Love Whomever on the other. They can be purchased by visiting Zak Court in Student Affairs.
