Campus Notices

Daily Mass at the Chaplaincy Centre has begun for the fall semester. We will gather for prayer on Mondays and Thursdays at 12:05 pm. All are welcome.

In celebration of UPEI’s 50th anniversary, join us for a series of inspiring talks by alumni from all eight faculties. Speakers will tell their stories of success and how UPEI changed their lives.

On September 11, from 5–7 pm in Schurman Market Square, Don and Marion McDougall Hall, the Faculty of Business presents Kevin Ladner, BBA 1985, who is Executive Partner and Chief Executive Officer of Grant Thornton.

For more information about Mr. Ladner and his extensive accomplishments, read the news story.

The Indigenizing and Decolonizing reading group is starting up again! Co-organized by the FDO and the IEAC faculty development committee, this reading group is open to anyone on campus, for any or all of the sessions. Our first gathering this academic year will be on Wednesday, Oct 2, at 12:30 pm, in the SDU Main Building Faculty Lounge. We'll be taking a cue from Pam Palmater's reconciliation book club and reading her first suggestion there: Whose Land is it Anyway? -- available online at https://fpse.ca/sites/default/files/news_files/Decolonization%20Handbook.pdf. Read the book, grab a colleague, and come join others in the ongoing discussion about indigenizing and decolonizing the university.

Due to impending weather, the NSO programming that was scheduled for this Saturday, September 7 will be moved to next Saturday, September 14, 2019. Below is the schedule of events for next Saturday:

-Pancake Breakfast at UPEI Chaplaincy Centre from 8:30 am to 9:30 am

-Panther Pump Up at UPEI Quad from 9:30 am to 10:00 am

Following the Panther Pump Up, students will take T3 public transportation busses to various locations throughout Charlottetown to collect monetary donations for the Panthers for Change Charities. This year, Panthers for Change will be donating to the PEI Division of the Canadian Mental Health Association, Family Violence Prevention Services, and PEERS Alliance. This event will wrap up at 3:00pm and students will return to UPEI campus.

NSO 2019 Closing Ceremonies will take place at the Wanda Wyatt Dining Hall from 6:30 pm to 8:45 pm, where the monetary donations from Panthers for Change will be presented to the charity representatives.

Members of the campus community are invited to join Dr. Linyuan Guo-Brennan and Dr. Charlene VanLeeuwen for a research presentation community-based learning and international students.  The presentation will be approximately 45 minutes followed by a 10 minute question period.

Increased global mobility has allowed more and more students to pursue graduate education overseas, and many are engaged in community-based learning (CBL) through formal or informal educational opportunities.

Based on a mixed-methods case study conducted in the context of UPEI's M.Ed with Global Perspectives Program, the presentation shares the impact of CBL on international students’ academic, sociocultural, personal, and professional development and discusses the benefits and challenges unique to international students in community-based learning.

All are welcome!
